Tami grew up in a Northern Minnesota town surrounded by a sonorous musical family whose members played a range of instruments including pianos, accordions, guitars, drums, violins, bass, and even a harp. Encouraged by her mother and her grandfather, she started Accordion lessons at the age of 8 adding Viola to her routine at age 14. She has passionately continued her musical and string studies through high school, college and culminating in being awarded a master’s in Pedagogy and Performance from George Mason University. During the past twenty years, Tami has shared her passion for a music/orchestra teacher in several public schools, youth symphonies and private music studios. Her students have ranged in ages from five to collegiate level, and her classrooms comprised of beginning band, middle school general music programs, specialized hearing-impaired instruction, and elementary music school classrooms. Professionally, Tami continues to hone her instrument skills on viola and violin through engagements with the professional, American Festival Pops Orchestra and as a member of community ensembles: Friends and Family Chamber Orchestra, Newel String Quartet, The Winchester Celtic Circle and Potomac Valley Scottish Fiddle Club. She thoroughly enjoys her role as an instructor of folk music and a variety of American and European folk music that harkens back to her northern European heritage. She also seeks opportunities to play with other musicians in community folk jam sessions and local musical festivals. Tami started after-school folk ensembles; “The Fiddlejacks” (Cloquet, Minnesota) and the “Haymarket Fiddleband” (Haymarket, Virginia) boasting up to 40 impassioned students that perform folk music at school events and community events. Throughout her career, Tami’s enthusiasm for teaching and her proficiency at performing instrumental music has afforded many opportunities to innovate and create exceptional learning experiences for her students. She is perfectly poised to become an integral educator in your school division and a highly motivated member of the professional learning community.
