Position Title: Special Education Teacher (Floating), 1.0 FTE
Assignment Location: This position will be a floating position and will work where most needed throughout the Cooperative’s eight alternative programs.
Hours per Day: 8.0
Schedule: 182 day contract per school calendar
Anticipated Start Date: August 21, 2023
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Floating Special Education Teacher is a licensed teacher that reports every day, but is not assigned to a permanent classroom/program. This position is responsible for filling in where most needed in MAWSECO’s nine alternative programs as determined. This could include long term substitute work if needed during the school year. This position will mainly work in a teaching position, but may also be assigned, on occasion and if needed, as a paraprofessional, administrative assistant, or other educational support.
ABOUT MAWSECO:
MAWSECO is an agency of seven-member school districts (Annandale, Dassel-Cokato, Delano, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Litchfield, Maple Lake and Rockford) that have joined together to provide services in the area of special education. The mission of the Cooperative is to provide quality special education leadership, services, and support to its seven-member school districts’ staff, students and families as well as other agencies/districts that purchase its services. The MAWSECO central office is located in Howard Lake, MN which is west of the metro and south of St. Cloud.
ABOUT CORNERSTONES:
Cornerstones is a therapeutic setting IV, multi-school district program located at the Wright Technical Center in Buffalo, MN and managed by MAWSECO. This program serves adolescents, grades 7-12 with emotional and behavioral needs that cannot be met within their home school district. The primary goal of the program is to provide educational support along with social skills training to acquire skills necessary to become independent learners in order to return to their home district as soon as possible.
ABOUT EASTERN WRIGHT:
The Eastern Wright Program is an intermediate level (grades 6-8) federal setting IV special education program designed to meet the needs of students who experience significant emotional and/or behavioral disabilities. The program is located in the Wright Technical Center. The primary goal of the program is to provide social skills and educational support to reduce stress and acquire skills in the emotional, behavioral, social and academic areas and return to the mainstream school as soon as possible. By reaching goals determined by the IEP team, which includes the parents, the Eastern Wright program is able to positively affect the future development and success of each student served.
ABOUT JOURNEYS:
The Journeys program is located at the MAWSECO Education Center in Howard Lake and serves children with behavioral needs in grades K-4. It is a multi-district program and is managed by Meeker & Wright Special Education Cooperative. Journeys serves young students with behavioral needs that cannot be met within their home school district. Students receive academic classes, social, and life skills which are individualized to foster learning and successful interactions with peers and adults. Students are recommended for these services by their IEP team and with the approval of district administration. The students reintegrate, as appropriate, back to their home school as recommended by the IEP team.
ABOUT SHOLUND:
Sholund School for Girls is located in Annandale, MN and is the educational facility on the grounds of Village Ranch, Inc. Residential facility. This program started in November of 2016 and serves girls in grades 8-12. The educational program provides a flexible and safe environment in which students can experience educational success. Enrollment is made up of students primarily living in the VIllage Ranch residence.
ABOUT STEP:
STEP (Student Transitioning in Educational Programming) is an educational program for young adults ages 18-21 with special needs. It is a community-based special education program emphasizing work experience and independent living skills. The 18-21 year old program services students who have completed high school requirements but are in need of extended schooling in two of the transition areas listed: Independent Living; Employment; Post Secondary Education and Training. The program was designed to meet these needs in the least restrictive, age appropriate environment.
ABOUT TREK:
TREK is a program designed for students who have been identified as having severe communication or neurological disorders. The target population for this program includes students who have been identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders or Developmental Cognitive Disorders and exhibit behavioral patterns which negatively affect the ability to interact with peers or adults in the regular school setting. TREK provides program solutions to effectively create an environment of successful learners.
ABOUT VILLAGE RANCH:
Village Ranch Alternative Program (VRAP) is located in Cokato, MN and is an educational facility on the grounds of the Village Ranch, Inc. Residential facility. The educational program provides a flexible and safe environment in which students can experience educational success. VRAP serves boys ages 12 – 18 some of whom have pre-identified disabilities. Enrollment is made up of boys primarily living in the Village Ranch residence.
ABOUT WESTSIDE:
The Westside Alternative Program, located in Maple Lake, MN provides educational services to residents of the Maple Lake Recovery Center. This residence program is a chemical dependency treatment center for male adolescents 13 years and older from throughout Minnesota and from other states.
ABOUT WINGS:
The Wings Alternative Program, located in Litchfield, MN is a residential treatment center for chemical dependency. The program serves male and female adolescents ages 14 years and older from throughout Minnesota and from other states. MAWSECO staff members provide educational services to students attending this program.

Requirements
Driver’s license and Minnesota teaching license are required. Special Education license strongly preferred.
