Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department will accept online applications for the position of Social Worker at our Secondary Building (Grades 6-12) for the 2022-23 school year.  We offer a competitive salary and benefits package.  Salary placement is based on education and experience as indicated in Teachers’ Collectively Bargained Agreement.

Job Summary
To provide a comprehensive program that supports student academic, sociological needs, physical and personal career development in an alternative school setting. This is accomplished through planning and preparation, maintain and educational environment, teaching and learning and providing professional responsibilities.

Job Functions

Implement or assist in implementing a safe school climate that results in academic and personal success for all students.
Provide individual support and small group programming to help students cope effectively to personal, social, academic, and family concerns.
Lead groups of students to help them with navigation and coping mechanisms related to addiction.
Lead lessons around substance use prevention.
Show concern for the total need of each student (educational, personal and social), encourage maximum growth and development
Attend student, staff and parent meetings as deemed appropriate
Collect and analyze data to evaluate the success of student guidance, counseling and career development plans
Consult and coordinate with staff, parents, and community resources.
Assist families to connect with resources in the community.
Assist in implementing an on-site crisis intervention/management plans.
Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
Monitor student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.

Requirements

Minnesota State Certification as a Licensed School Social Worker preferred
Prior experience preferred in a school setting
Knowledge of the special education process and rules
Ability to  maintain rapport with students, parents, and colleagues
Able to work in collaboration with instructional staff: inclusive education, special education, alternative school and school climate and culture
Commitment to working effectively with students and families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
Demonstration of data analysis skills, instructional interventions, and state assessment
Knowledge of the law as pertaining to schools
Knowledge of at-risk behaviors and intervention strategies.
Knowledge of resources and referral systems for students and parents. Serves as a liaison with outside agencies such as social services, juvenile probation and detention.
Requires significant confidentiality responsibilities
