Reports to: Superintendent/Director of Management Services
The job of the Communication Coordinator is for assisting with the district’s internal and external communications in a manner consistent with, and supportive of, the district’s mission. The coordinator writes press releases, takes photographs, publishes electronic and print communications, manages the district’s social media and helps to manage the district and school websites.
Support District 518’s communications to internal and external stakeholders through the use of effective print, broadcast and electronic communication. Develop and implement district-wide communications strategies and tactics, including execution of specific programs for internal and external school district audiences.
Duties and Responsibilities:Develops specific project communication plans including production schedules and budget estimates.
Maintains excellent relationships with students, administrators, teachers, other staff, parents and community members for the purpose of serving as a communications liaison for the schools and programs.
Assist with monitoring and coordinating crisis communication activities, in conjunction with district administrators for the purpose of reporting in a coordinated and effective manner.
Manage multiple projects with various deadlines effectively.
Write for a variety of audiences and purposes including a community newsletter, staff newsletter, district web site, marketing materials, news releases and other print materials.
Edit and proofread print materials for accuracy, consistency, clarity and style.
Coordinate production of print materials generated
Assist with the planning and implementation of public relations initiatives.
Assist in managing the content for the district’s web site.
Photograph district events and activities for use in district materials.
Assist with the media relations and special events.
Ability to meet and interact with public and employees with tact, courtesy and discretion.
Ability to compile information from various sources.
Ability to exercise independent judgment in the interrelation and application of standard practices and procedures.

Experience with gathering and editing video.
Ability to adapt to emerging technologies.
Possess problem solving skills and reasoning ability.
Ability to work with students, staff, parents & community members in a positive manner.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues that supports a cooperative work environment.
Work independently with minimal direction.
Qualifications:Experience in journalism, communications, public relations, graphic design or related field.
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations or related field preferred.
Range: $40,000 to $55,000 depending on experience and work
12-month employee with benefits package
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
