Position Type: 1.0 FTE

Summary
Discovery Middle School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team as a shared staff member. This full-time position will spend the majority of the day at Discovery Middle School and will teach one class at Alexandria Area High School. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and academic growth. This position requires a commitment to promoting mathematical understanding and critical thinking skills among students in grades 6-8.

Responsibilities
– Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the curriculum and state standards for middle school mathematics.
– Assess and evaluate student progress through a variety of methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, and class participation.
– Provide individualized support and intervention for students who may be struggling with mathematical concepts.
– Foster a classroom environment that encourages collaboration, respect, and a growth mindset among students.
– Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student performance and classroom activities.
– Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in mathematics education.
– Collaborate with other faculty members to integrate cross-curricular learning experiences.
– Organize and supervise math-related extracurricular activities, such as math clubs or competitions.
– Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation.
– Uphold the values and mission of Discovery Middle School in all interactions with students and the community.

Requirements
– Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field.
– Valid teaching certification in Mathematics for middle school grades.
– Proven experience teaching middle school mathematics preferred.
– Strong knowledge of mathematical concepts and instructional strategies.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
– Ability to engage and motivate students in a diverse classroom setting.
– Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
– Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
– Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
– A passion for teaching and a desire to make a positive impact on students’ lives.
