Job Title: Long-Term Substitute Teacher – Special Education Alexandria Area High School
Location: Alexandria Area High School, Alexandria, Minnesota
Position Type: Long-Term Substitute
Dates: 8/24/26 – 12/22/26
Grade Levels: 9–12

Job Summary:
Alexandria Area High School is seeking a qualified and student-centered Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher to serve high school students during a teacher’s extended absence. This position supports students with disabilities in meeting their academic, social, and behavioral goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), while preparing students for postsecondary success.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide specially designed instruction aligned with Minnesota Academic Standards and students’ IEP goals
Implement and follow IEPs, including accommodations, modifications, and behavior support plans
Support students in a variety of settings, which may include special education classrooms, co-taught/inclusion settings, and small groups
Collaborate with general education teachers, case managers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and administrators
Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals and maintain required records
Maintain a structured, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
Communicate professionally with families and school staff as appropriate
Follow all district policies, special education compliance requirements, and confidentiality standards
Qualifications
Valid Minnesota teaching license or Minnesota short-call/long-term substitute license
Minnesota Special Education licensure preferred (e.g., Learning Disabilities, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, or related field)
Experience working with high school students with disabilities preferred
Knowledge of IEP development and implementation
Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with transition planning and postsecondary readiness
Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques
Experience in co-teaching or inclusion models at the secondary level
Compensation: $263.55 per day
