TITLE:  FACILITIES SUPERVISOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
Boiler Operator’s Certificate (can be obtained after start of employment, but within the first 6 months of employment).
State Herbicide and Pesticide Applicator License (can be obtained after start of employment, but within the first 6 months of employment).
At least two years of supervisor/management experience. Experience with institutional routine preventative maintenance and non-routine and emergency corrective maintenance and lawn maintenance preferred.

REPORTS TO: To be determined upon hire

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Facility Supervisor is responsible for the daily management and operation of district facilities. Your primary role involves overseeing maintenance, custodial, and grounds staff to create a safe, clean, and appealing environment for students, staff, and the public. Responsibilities include inspecting facilities, training new personnel, managing equipment availability, and ensuring tasks are completed safely and on time. Additionally, you’ll lead building and grounds management, oversee construction and remodeling projects, and ensure compliance with goals and funding source requirements.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, carrying, pushing, and pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Determine and initiate proper action to effectively and expeditiously complete repairs per school policy, sound maintenance practices, and urgency of operations.
Conducts routine and periodic inspections of school grounds and facilities and recommends necessary improvements to ensure site safety, maintain cleaning standards and state and federal regulations, and organize and report deficiencies to the Business Administrator and Superintendent.
Coordinates with building and activities administrators to prioritize maintenance schedules, custodial and grounds work activities within the districts, and directs personnel to appropriate sites or areas.
Maintains a variety of records (e.g., Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), fire inspections, Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), equipment inspections, schedules, procedures, safety logs, maintenance requests, etc.) to provide complete and accurate documentation and audit trail in compliance with district, state and federal regulations.
Monitors related budget items, both capital outlay and general fund, to ensure expenses are within budgetary allocations.
Monitors districtwide maintenance and security (e.g., fire alarms and security, fire extinguishers, maintenance standards, etc.) to inspect sites, document pertinent information, and limit loss and liability.
Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
Performs need assessments to ensure that selections and purchases meet the present and future needs of the District.
Plans and directs the daily work activities of all maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel (e.g., cost estimates, work orders, etc.) to ensure that the department functions safely and efficiently.
Prepares various reports (e.g., budget, cost evaluation, pesticide applications, playground installation, inspections, etc.) to convey information and provide documentation to meet district, state, and federal requirements.
Prepares specifications and bids (e.g., carpet replacement, custodial equipment, chalkboards, special projects, etc.) to submit accurate cost estimates of proposed work activities.
Procures equipment, supplies, and materials to maintain appropriate inventory and availability of required items.
Provide estimates and recommendations to the Business Administrator related to long-range capital outlay expenditures to ensure that these areas provide a hazard-free environment for students and staff in the most cost-effective manner possible.
Researches maintenance and operations equipment and cleaning products to evaluate products to meet the District’s standards and environmental goals.
Respond to emergencies and may be required to be available on 24-hour calls to determine and implement appropriate actions necessary to resolve the situation.
Supervises all maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel (e.g., hiring recommendations, interviewing, contacting references, training, evaluations, etc.) to maximize the workforce’s efficiency and meet operational requirements.
Provides on-site assistance to maintain workforce capacity when staff are absent or additional help is needed to support district facilities and grounds.
Trains maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel to ensure proper cleaning and building maintenance techniques, injury prevention, and legal compliance.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Contract of 260 days.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually.
