Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education
The Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education provides strategic leadership and oversight for all elementary schools, leading a team of principals and educators dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning. In close partnership with the Superintendent and district leadership team, the Assistant Superintendent will lead, support and continuously improve elementary programming, instruction, and operations. This role ensures high-quality learning experiences, advances inclusion and belonging, and strengthens systems that support student success across all elementary schools. The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Superintendent and serves on the Superintendent’s Cabinet. Provides leadership and supervision to six elementary principals and shares oversight of district-level departments to ensure alignment and effectiveness across the system. Eden Prairie is a school district with approximately 2,400 full time and seasonal employees serving over 9,000 students PreK-12. The district is recognized for its quality initiatives and its leadership in educational programming.
Position requirements:
- Current Minnesota Superintendent License, or ability to obtain.
- Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred in educational leadership or related field.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of successful building-level leadership experience (principal or equivalent). Prior district-level leadership experience preferred, particularly in elementary education.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience leading and supporting principals & department heads to improve student outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and monitor system-wide instructional improvement efforts.
- Deep knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and continuous improvement practices.
- Experienced in personnel development, supervision, and evaluation, including coaching leaders.
- Strong understanding of school finance, resource allocation, and operational systems.
- Experience leading change initiatives across multiple sites or departments.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and lead complex systems, aligning vision across schools.
- Skilled communicator and systems thinker who possesses excellent interpersonal skills to effectively work with and build trust with staff, students, parents, and the community.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative leadership team, contributing to sharing decision making and organization alignment.
Position reports to: Superintendent
Direct reports: Six Elementary Principals
Starting salary: $242,908 and a highly competitive benefits package.
