The Executive Director will guide a passionate volunteer board, champion exceptional professional development, and serve as a connector across statewide districts, partners, and at the Capitol. They will help MASBO expand its impact, supporting members through a rapidly changing education landscape, amplifying the profession, and ensuring that school business leaders across Minnesota feel equipped, supported, and inspired.
The Executive Director provides strategic, operational, and relational leadership for MASBO. Serving as the association’s chief executive, the Executive Director works in close partnership with the MASBO Board of Directors to advance the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the organization while ensuring strong member services, sound financial stewardship, and effective operations.
MASBO is a small, statewide professional association supported by the Executive Director, one support staff member, and a contracted association management agency. As such, this role requires a balance of visionary leadership and hands-on execution. The Executive Director serves as the primary representative of MASBO to members, partners, vendors, policymakers, and affiliated organizations, while overseeing all aspects of association administration, programs, communications, and governance support.

MASBO seeks a relational, strategic, and highly organized Executive Director who brings the leadership presence, operational discipline, and member-centered mindset to guide the association into its next chapter. This individual will be a visible ambassador for MASBO, a trusted advisor to the Board, and a steady partner to members across Minnesota. They will balance big-picture vision with hands-on execution, strengthening MASBO’s role as the premier resource for school business officials statewide.

Execution & Management
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage the complexity of a small, high-performing association
• Able to balance strategy with execution; maintaining excellence in operations while evolving the role
• Someone who can drive momentum and follow-through, ensuring ideas translate into action
• A leader who empowers staff and leverages partners (e.g., contracted association management agency) effectively
Experience & Background
• Association leadership experience is highly valued, particularly in member-driven organizations
• School finance or education experience seen as helpful but not required; can be learned with the strength of the membership base
COMPENSATION
The target salary range for the Executive Director role is $145,000 – $165,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Executive Director will also have access to an employee benefits program.
LOCATION & WORKING CONDITIONS
MASBO staff currently operate in a remote/hybrid work setting. The Executive Director may be based statewide in Minnesota with work typically performed in a professional office (located in St. Louis Park, MN) or home office environment. This role requires regular statewide travel. Occasional evening and weekend work and overnight travel for national events is expected.
