Job Summary:
Under direction of principal and director of special education, the Agency Advocate provides special education support for students in the area of behavior management in order to help them fulfill their potential for academic, emotional, and social growth through instruction in academic content standards and curriculum designed to meet each student’s individualized goals and objectives. Applicant will have a four year post secondary related degree.
Responsibilities:
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
Fully understand and ensure the fidelity of the implementation of the developed behavioral plan for identified special education students.
Direct/redirect the work and responsibilities of educational assistants as it relates to implementation of the behavioral intervention plan.
Work with identified student(s) to reinforce motor, academic, social, self-care or communication skills under the direction of the teacher.
Assisting the teacher(s) in devising strategies for reinforcing skills based on understanding of student needs, interests and abilities.
Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
Assist student with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, and positioning.
Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, toileting needs and personal hygiene.
Assist student while in mainstream classes.
Help manage behavior of all students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior using Crisis Prevention and Intervention strategies, as needed.
Guide students in working and playing appropriately.
Assist and supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the special education classroom.
Requirements
Qualifications:

Completion of a 4 year degree in education or other Human Services area
Current and continuing certification in Crisis Prevention Intervention preferred
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, employees at all levels in the organization and with others in the community.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including students at age level of assigned position.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to students and staff.
Ability to work independently.
Ability and proven record of reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis.
