Position Summary:
Hiawatha Valley Education District’s (HVED) Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR) and performs occupational therapy procedures and related tasks for/on students as indicated through Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Qualifications:
Current Minnesota COTA license
Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant Associate Degree program accredited by an agency recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Assists in the completion of assessment process of students using appropriate tests under the supervision of an OTR to determine students’ level of functioning and need for therapy services.
Assist OTR in the IEP process to develop goals and objectives and attend IEP and periodic review meetings.
Provide input describing students’ abilities/needs as determined or observed during treatment sessions.
Provide treatment for students qualifying for services using a variety of appropriate modalities under the direction of an OTR to improve/maintain students’ perceptual/fine motor and sensory motor performance.
Assist OTR in maintaining student files including recording, charting, or graphic data relative to students’ progress.
Attend meetings as required.
Assist OTR in maintaining safety and cleanliness of therapy space and equipment in order to provide an appropriate educational environment.
Learn and adhere to established policies and procedures of the School District and Special Education Department to ensure that School District standards are enforced.
Instruct classroom educational assistants of appropriate activities for the student(s).
Construct and adapt equipment used by therapists and students using a variety of tools and modalities to modify and make equipment to meet the needs of staff and students.
Communicate with outside service providers to coordinate services.
Other job related duties as assigned.

Uses standard office equipment such as computer/laptop, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements:
Travel as required to fulfill student needs

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in school building environments and office setting.

FLSA: non-exempt

Salary:  $25.50 – $36.25 based on experience.  Comprehensive benefits package offered.

HVED operates two specialized Setting IV programs: SAIL (Students Achieving Integrated Learning), which serves students in grades K–12 with significant behavioral needs, and SPECTRUM (Specialized Programming, Education, Comprehensive Therapy, and Resources for Unique Minds), which supports students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Both programs are currently located in Winona, Minnesota.
