ISD 361 is a forward-thinking school district with two educational campuses and additional facilities supporting transportation, athletics, and activities. We are looking for a dynamic, collaborative technology leader to join our senior leadership team and shape the future of technology across our district.

Position Overview
The Director of Technology provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all technology systems, infrastructure, and initiatives across ISD 361. This role balances long-range planning with hands-on execution from enterprise network management and cybersecurity to AI integration and staff training. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, communicates clearly with diverse audiences, and is passionate about the role technology plays in modern education.  The tech director will become the site expert in all digital platforms within the district.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Planning

Develop and execute a multi-year district technology roadmap aligned with educational and operational goals.
Serve on the district senior leadership team, advising the Superintendent and School Board on technology investments, policy, and trends.
Research and pursue grants, E-Rate funding, and other external technology funding opportunities.
Work closely with district administration in the ongoing development of learning platforms, schedules and the development of an online school.
Cybersecurity & Data Privacy

Design, implement, and manage a district-wide cybersecurity framework including threat monitoring, incident response, and staff awareness training.
Ensure compliance with FERPA, CIPA, and Minnesota data privacy regulations; protect student and staff data at all times.
Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and risk management reviews.
Manage identity and access controls, including Active Directory, group policies, and multi-factor authentication.
Facilitate digital citizenship and educational resources for staff and students.
Monitor the safety and security of online use for our staff, students and school community.
AI & Emerging Technology Integration

Lead the district’s responsible adoption of AI tools, evaluating platforms, developing usage policies, and providing professional development for staff.
Identify emerging technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency.
Collaborate with curriculum teams to integrate technology meaningfully into classroom instruction.
Infrastructure & Systems Management

Oversee all network infrastructure — managed switches, VLANs, enterprise wireless (multiple APs), and servers (Windows, Linux, Google, etc.).
Maintain and support district systems including SIS (Infinite Campus), telephony, intercoms, surveillance, and alarms.
Lead technology procurement, inventory management, and lifecycle planning in compliance with district and state policies.
Manage technology budget and expenditures, ensuring alignment with district financial policies.
Development and management of ISD 361 website.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

Communicate technology updates, incidents, and initiatives clearly and proactively to staff, administrators, parents, and the School Board.
Facilitate and participate in Technology Advisory Committee meetings, board presentations, and community engagement events.
Translate complex technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical audiences.
Train and support staff on technology, platforms, systems and district applications
Communication applicable resources and information to stakeholders
Team Leadership & Support

Supervise, mentor, and develop technology support staff including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Provide one-on-one and group training to staff on technology tools, systems, and best practices.
Deliver responsive, customer-focused technical support across all district facilities.

Qualifications
Required

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, MIS, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure, systems administration, or technology management.
Demonstrated experience with network administration (switches, VLANs, wireless enterprise systems) and Active Directory / Group Policy.
Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles, frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS Controls), and data privacy regulations.
Familiarity with AI tools and platforms, including the ability to evaluate them for safe and effective educational use.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills able to engage confidently with technical staff, administrators, and the community.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Experience working with or in K-12 education environments.
Enjoy working within a PreK through 12th grade school district focused on a thriving school community, culture and progressive mindset.
Preferred

Experience with Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, and Infinite Campus SIS.
Familiarity with E-Rate program administration and technology grant writing.
Knowledge of classroom technology (interactive displays, document cameras, AV systems).
Experience managing technology during new construction or major facilities projects.
Basic proficiency in HTML and web development within a Google for Education domain.

Work Conditions
This position requires occasional prolonged or irregular hours, including on-call availability. Physical demands include frequent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Prolonged computer use is expected. Work is performed across multiple district facilities.
