Band and Choir Director – Grades 7-12 (with some Elementary)

Full-Time  •  Licensed  •  Application Deadline: May 15, 2026ISD 361 is seeking a progressive, energetic, and talented performing arts educator to lead and grow our music department and extracurricular music programming. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a thriving program and make a lasting impact on students from International Falls and the surrounding border community.

Position Overview
•    Direct 7th–12th grade Concert Band and Choir

•    Pep Band coordination and leadership

•    Solo & Ensemble preparation

•    Elementary music support as assigned

•    Individual and small group lessons

•    Assist with musical theatre productions

Responsibilities
•    Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned band and choir instruction for grades 7–12

•    Organize and direct all school performances including concerts, pep band events, and community engagements

•    Prepare students for MN State High School League large group and solo & ensemble contests

•    Maintain and oversee district instruments and music equipment inventory

•    Build a culture of excellence, discipline, and joy in the performing arts

•    Recruit and retain students in the music program across all grade levels

•    Provide lessons and supports for individual and small group growth and development

•    Lead and perform band and choir program at ISD 361 events

Minimum Qualifications
•    Valid Minnesota teaching license in Instrumental Music (K–12) and/or Vocal Music (K–12)

•    Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field from an accredited institution

•    Meets all Minnesota Department of Education licensure and background check requirements

Preferred Qualifications
•    Dual licensure in both Instrumental and Vocal Music, strongly preferred

•    Experience directing concert band, jazz band, and/or show or concert choir

•    Demonstrated success in recruiting and building music programs

•    Experience with elementary music instruction and feeder program development

•    Background in musical theatre direction or accompaniment a plus
