Position Overview
The Student Support Specialist serves as a key leader in building a positive school culture and supporting student success at both Falls High School (FHS), the Alternative Learning Center (ALC) and West End Early Education (as needed). Functioning much like a Dean of Students, this position blends the responsibilities of a Behavior Interventionist and Attendance Liaison, with a focus on proactive, trauma informed and restorative approaches to student behavior, early intervention, and removing barriers to learning.

The ideal candidate is a trauma-informed educator/professional with a deep commitment to equity, positive relationships, and multi-tiered systems of support, and brings credentialed expertise in one or more of the following areas: teaching, psychology, or behavior specialist licensure.

Primary Responsibilities
Behavior/SEL Support & Intervention

–       Develop and implement individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and support Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions within the MTSS framework

–       Help lead and support Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) implementation and schoolwide behavior expectations across both Falls High School and the ALC

–       Collaborate with, coach, and support staff in student success, school and individualized student supports and de-escalation strategies

–       Respond to behavior incidents with appropriate, restorative, and policy-aligned consequences

–       Facilitate restorative conferences to resolve conflict and repair harm among students

–       Lead bullying and harassment prevention efforts and promote a safe, inclusive school climate for adolescents

–       Provide intervention planning and supports with staff, students and families

Data & Systems Leadership

–       Use behavior, academic, and attendance data to monitor trends and adjust supports to improve student engagement

–       Collaborate with the MTSS Data Team to monitor student behavior, academics, and attendance across programs

–       Works closely with the building principal, district leadership and site teams as the student liaison

Attendance & Family Engagement

–       Track and support student attendance, addressing chronic absenteeism through family partnerships and data-informed interventions

–       Serve on the District Attendance Team and help coordinate individual attendance improvement plans with other district staff

–       Work closely with teachers, counselors, and office staff to support consistent attendance routines

–       Communicate regularly with families about behavior, support plans, and student needs

Supervision & Presence

–       Maintain a strong, visible presence in hallways, the cafeteria, common areas, and at dismissal

–       Support staff and student leaders in fostering positive environments during passing periods, lunch, and extracurricular or after-school events

–       Support students in crisis and coordinate appropriate response, including collaboration with counselors, administrators, and outside agencies as needed

Preferred Qualifications
–       Teaching degree/license, Psychology degree, or Behavior Specialist licensure (or licensure in a related field such as social work or school counseling)

–       Experience working in secondary education, including with at-risk or alternative education populations

–       Training or experience in trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, PBIS, and MTSS

–       Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with adolescents, staff, and families

–       Ability to communicate effectively in-person and on the phone with families and community partners

–       Knowledge of data collection and behavior progress monitoring

–       Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in crisis situations

–       Experience or willingness to work across both a comprehensive high school and an alternative learning setting
