Minnehaha Academy seeking a Building Substitute Teacher to work every school day of 2026-2027 in our Lower School. The Lower School Building Substitute will serve the entire Lower School, including Preschool through 5th grade classrooms, Specialist classrooms, and Preschool Teaching Assistant roles.

The hours are 8:00-3:30. This is an hourly position, with 7 hours of paid time daily and an unpaid 30-minute lunch break.

Purpose: To maintain a positive and well-managed learning environment and to provide strong and stable instruction for students during teacher absences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve in various capacities within the Lower School daily, including general education classrooms, Preschool-5th grade, as well as Specialist classrooms (Art, Music, PE, etc.)
  • Provide instructional continuity during teacher absences, implementing teacher lesson plans to ensure continued learning and growth
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment
  • Assist with non-instructional duties such as morning drop-off, lunchroom supervision, recess monitoring, and dismissal, as needed
  • Provide clear feedback for the returning teacher regarding student progress and any behavioral notes.

  •  Strong, positive classroom management
  • Technology proficiency, including Google
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

The salary range for this position is $19.00 – $22.00 per hour, to be determined by our Human Resource Director based on education and experience.

Requirements

Qualifications   

  • College degree, educational background strongly preferred
  • Previous teaching experience in an elementary setting strongly preferred
  • Teaching License preferred, not mandatory
  • Ability to integrate the Christian faith into all aspects of the classroom
