Location: District-Wide

 

Scheduled Hours/Days: 8 hours/day, Monday – Friday

 

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or higher in Special Education or a related field, with post-graduate coursework in special education administration, along with a Minnesota license as both a Director of Special Education and a Special Education teacher or service provider. The ideal candidate will bring comprehensive knowledge of special education law, due process, and school administration principles, including familiarity with both IDEA Part B and Part C, paired with demonstrated experience supervising and evaluating licensed staff. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build positive working relationships across a school community, and proficiency with technology to support effective day-to-day operations are essential to success in this role.

 

Pay Rate/Range: $140,000 – $146,000 – Pending final board approval of the 2026-2028 Non-Union Administrators Contract Agreement.

Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Special Services provides administrative oversight of the District’s special education programs and services, serving students from early childhood through 12th grade, and reports to the Director of Special Services. Key responsibilities include leading the recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of licensed special education staff; serving as the District Representative at special education staffings; and collaborating with building principals on student needs and program development. The Assistant Director also ensures compliance with special education due process laws, rules, and procedures by providing consultation and technical assistance to staff and families, conducting routine IEP audits, monitoring staff caseloads, and facilitating ongoing professional development for special education personnel.
