General Purpose of Job: To inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning.

Responsibilities: Teach students skills in organization, communication, anger control and problem-solving. Inservice colleagues on strategies for dealing with unacceptable behavior and help them develop plans for implementing such strategies. Collaborate in the planning and delivery of staff development and training for staff and parents/guardians. Observe student behavior in classrooms. Lead and improve an accountable management system for evaluating the success or lack of it in addressing unique population behaviors, which may include identifying a referral process, goal-setting with students in collaboration with all staff, and daily monitoring of both behavior and academic intervention plans. Other duties, specific to building site improvement plans and principal.

Requirements

Valid Minnesota teaching license in appropriate field.

 

Desired Qualifications:

Considerable knowledge of educational philosophy, teaching methods and approaches, current researched best practices and strategies.
Considerable knowledge of students' learning styles and needs, both academic and affective.
Considerable knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts.
Working knowledge of instructional technologies.
Considerable skill in classroom management and organization.
Ability to effectively facilitate and/or participate in team meetings and parent meetings.
Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
Experience working with high needs children and their supporting adults.
Effective leadership skills.
Ability to communicate and develop positive relationships with adults and students.
Strong technology skills, including creating and managing spreadsheets
Preferred working knowledge of Fastbridge
Preferred experience with restorative practices
