Position Summary:
Owatonna Public Schools is seeking a qualified early childhood educator to join the Early Childhood Program. This position plays a vital role as one of the first points of contact for families entering the district, helping to establish positive relationships and a strong foundation for future learning. The educator will deliver high-quality early learning experiences through the implementation of evidence-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
The successful candidate will plan and facilitate the child-focused portion of Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes, providing engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for children ages 1–5, often alongside their parents. This role includes collaborating with a licensed parent educator who leads the parent education component. In addition, this position includes planning and teaching one preschool section of Little Huskies three-year-olds, with a focus on creating engaging, play-based learning experiences that support early development.
This role involves a variable schedule, including up to two evenings per week. Due to evening programming, the position offers flexibility with adjusted start times on applicable days. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and contribute to a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment for children, families, and colleagues.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Family Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field; a valid Minnesota teaching license in Early Childhood (Birth to Age 5) and/or Birth–Grade 3; and strong knowledge of child development from birth through age five.
Candidates must demonstrate experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as documented experience applying the Minnesota Early Childhood Indicators of Progress. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the use of research-based instructional strategies to support high levels of learning for all students and experience utilizing an inquiry-based approach to instruction.
Desired qualifications include:
Successful candidates will have at least two years of experience partnering with preschool families to support school readiness and early development. Experience in developing, implementing, and adapting curriculum and learning environments for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and their families is required.
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team to support the positive development of children and families from diverse backgrounds. Strong interpersonal skills, including effective verbal, written, and digital communication, are essential, along with solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
Position Requirements:
Successful experience in partnering with families in a professional capacity. The successful applicant must have the ability to work as a contributing team member in a culture of excellence to deliver programs that address the positive development of children and families in diverse populations. This position requires schedule flexibility and availability for two evenings per week, currently from 3:45-5:00 pm.
