School Counselor – Pipestone Area Elementary
JOB DESCRIPTION
Pipestone Area School District is currently seeking a school counselor. Duties could include but isn’t limited to: providing academic skills support; fostering peer relationships and effective social skills; establishing career and transition plans; conducting individual and small-group counseling; and Character Education, and educating students and parents regarding social issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelors/Masters Degree from an accredited college or university applicable to counseling assignment
Holds or be eligible to obtain a Minnesota teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of current counseling methods and educational pedagogy.
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding counselors and students.
Possess a high level of organizational and communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Willingness to be involved in other aspects of the Pipestone Area Schools culture and community.
Team Player and team-oriented thinker.
RESPONSIBILITIES:Lead a comprehensive program focused on student academic and social needs.
Develop and deliver high quality academic and social-emotional lessons consistent with school district goals and objectives.
Collaborate with colleagues to carry out Multi-tiered System of Supports including Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
Maintain accurate records and data collection.
Conduct ongoing assessment of student social-emotional needs, including conducting individual and small group counseling as needed.
Participate fully in mentoring and instructional coaching programs, align and deepen counseling curriculum, and improve pedagogy.
Practice and carry out rules and procedures as defined by the Pipestone Area School District.
Support the Principal with supervision of students.
Communicate in a positive way to develop rapport with learners and treat them with respect.
Demonstrate a commitment to our school’s mission of Inspire life-long learners. Build Character, and Prepare them for their Future.
SUPERVISION:
Counselors report to the building principal.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
Opportunities for extra-curricular activities may be available and posted on the District website.
COMPENSATION:
Certified staff are compensated according to the current master agreement.
