About Us
The West Central Education District (WCED) serves four central Minnesota member school districts: Albany, Melrose, Paynesville, and Sauk Centre. Our mission is to maximize every student’s educational experience by providing high-quality services to students, families, and member districts.
In addition to supporting our member districts in all aspects of special education, including early childhood special education services for birth to three-year-olds, we operate three alternative educational programs:
- SAIL – A transition program for students aged 18-22 with disabilities, located in Paynesville.
- WCED ALC – An alternative junior/senior high school serving both general and special education students, located in Melrose.
- Beacon – A federal setting IV special education program for students with behavioral needs, also located in Melrose.
We are a dedicated team of over 50 professionals committed to student success. We foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and mutual support, ensuring that every staff member feels valued and empowered.
