The next Executive Director of MASBO will step into a thriving, respected, and deeply connected statewide association at a pivotal moment of evolution. The Executive Director will guide a passionate volunteer board, champion exceptional professional development, and serve as a connector across statewide districts, partners, and at the Capitol. They will help MASBO expand its impact, supporting members through a rapidly changing education landscape, amplifying the profession, and ensuring that school business leaders across Minnesota feel equipped, supported, and inspired.
The Executive Director provides strategic, operational, and relational leadership for MASBO. Serving as the association’s chief executive, the Executive Director works in close partnership with the MASBO Board of Directors to advance the mission, vision, and strategic priorities of the organization while ensuring strong member services, sound financial stewardship, and effective operations.
MASBO is a small, statewide professional association supported by the Executive Director, one support staff member, and a contracted association management agency. As such, this role requires a balance of visionary leadership and hands-on execution. The Executive Director serves as the primary representative of MASBO to members, partners, vendors, policymakers, and affiliated organizations, while overseeing all aspects of association administration, programs, communications, and governance support.

MASBO seeks a relational, strategic, and highly organized Executive Director who brings the leadership presence, operational discipline, and member-centered mindset to guide the association into its next chapter. This individual will be a visible ambassador for MASBO, a trusted advisor to the Board, and a steady partner to members across Minnesota. They will balance big-picture vision with hands-on execution, strengthening MASBO’s role as the premier resource for school business officials statewide.

Execution & Management
• Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage the complexity of a small, high-performing association
• Able to balance strategy with execution; maintaining excellence in operations while evolving the role
• Someone who can drive momentum and follow-through, ensuring ideas translate into action
• A leader who empowers staff and leverages partners (e.g., contracted association management agency) effectively

Experience & Background
• Association leadership experience is highly valued, particularly in member-driven organizations
• School finance or education experience seen as helpful but not required; can be learned with the strength of the membership base

COMPENSATION
The target salary range for the Executive Director role is $145,000 – $165,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Executive Director will also have access to an employee benefits program.

LOCATION & WORKING CONDITIONS
MASBO staff currently operate in a remote/hybrid work setting. The Executive Director may be based statewide in Minnesota with work typically performed in a professional office (located in St. Louis Park, MN) or home office environment. This role requires regular statewide travel. Occasional evening and weekend work and overnight travel for national events is expected.

Position Summary
As Assistant Director, you will lead MITY’s expanding elementary programs and contribute to strategic initiatives in operations, admissions, and marketing. You’ll collaborate with passionate
educators, engage diverse communities, and play a key role in enhancing the MITY experience for students and families. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position offers an exciting opportunity to help guide the organization as it approaches its 60th anniversary.

Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth’s mission is to inspire and challenge intellectually curious students to pursue their passions within a diverse, inclusive community and empower them by
building skills and relationships for lifelong success. MITY provides academic enrichment programs during the summer and on select Saturday mornings during the school year. Founded in 1967, MITY now serves over 1,200 1st – 11th grade advanced learners from over 290 schools annually. For many of these students, MITY is the one place that they can be themselves and meet like-minded peers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Elementary Program Leadership
● Oversee all aspects of MITY’s Saturday and summer elementary programs from planning to execution.
● Review student files and make admissions decisions.
● Facilitate sessions, including welcoming families, delivering opening remarks, managing logistics, and handling technology or behavior issues.
● Recruit, train, and supervise teachers and seasonal staff.
● Maintain strong relationships with families, students, and host school personnel.

Marketing and Community Engagement
● Co-develop and implement a strategic communications plan to promote MITY’s brand and programs.
● Establish partnerships with schools, local organizations, and businesses to broaden MITY’s reach.
● Represent MITY at school visits and community events.
● Gather and curate photos, videos, testimonials, and data to support storytelling and outreach.
● Build alumni relationships to support fundraising and networking.

Resource Development
● Coordinate resources in support of hands-on learning experiences, including organizing supplies and updating and maintaining technology.
● Extend and update MITY’s database of appropriate families and educators.

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have the following:
Must-Haves
● A passion for empowering youth through meaningful education
● Master’s degree in education, nonprofit management, communications, or a related field
● 10+ years of experience in teaching, school leadership, or nonprofit program management
● Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with diverse communities
● Proficiency in Google Workspace and strong tech literacy
● Strong organization, follow-through, and attention to detail
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team

Preferred Qualifications
● Experience leading enrichment, gifted/talented, or out-of-school-time programs
● Marketing, communications, or community engagement experience
● Knowledge of DEI practices in educational or nonprofit settings
● Sense of humor and approachable, team-oriented personality

Work Environment
● Join a small, collaborative full-time team (3 staff) and help lead a larger seasonal workforce of ~100 educators and contractors.
● The position is hybrid; you will be expected to work in the St. Paul office two+ days per week and be on-site for all Saturday and summer programming
● Periodic travel within the Twin Cities metro area for events

Compensation:

Associate Director of Management Services

The Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1920. We are located in St. Peter, Minnesota. MSBA prides itself as being a “Go-To” education association by providing workshops, resources, services, and connections designed to help school boards save time, reduce expenses, govern efficiently, and stay inspired.

Position

MSBA is seeking a full-time Associate Director of Management Services to join the Management Services team.

This position has a hybrid working model; it requires occasional evening and weekend hours.

Primary Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Management Services will:

  • Research and respond to members’ inquiries on human resources-related matters, negotiations, finance, board-superintendent relations, and other issues related to school district operations.
  • Support and assist with member training sessions, as well as other MSBA programs and services.
  • Assist with review of existing Management Services related materials, programs, and services for accuracy and effectiveness; make modifications to reflect best practices, align to current statute and/or policy protocol and procedure, and meet the changing needs of members and MSBA.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance relationships in order to work collaboratively with team members, MSBA staff, MSBA members, partners, and other organizations.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of standard computer software and technology (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite and related programs).
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proficient interpersonal skills enabling effective interaction with individuals at all levels, together with a customer-service-oriented approach emphasizing responsiveness and problem-solving.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision and to collaborate with others as needed.
  • Excellent research, strategic, and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills for small and large groups.
  • Familiarity with local government boards or educational environments, coupled with understanding of public education and school board governance.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resources strategies and practices such as employee relations, performance management, leaves (ADA, FMLA), etc.
