Student Support Specialist

Job Summary
Teach student skills in organization, communication, behavior management and problem-solving.  Work with colleagues to develop and implement strategies to address unacceptable student behaviors.

Job Functions

Develop interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
Develop procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
Communicate with appropriate teachers and other district staff personnel as necessary on behavior matters.
Provide behavioral assistance to families as requested by the principal, teacher, or district staff.
Conduct workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally disturbed students.
Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
Design and implement new programs that reflect the changing needs of the student population.
Actively participate in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data.
Support and promote Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) initiatives.
Provide work direction and guidance to Student Behavior Assistants on strategies to address student behaviors, de-escalating techniques, and re-integrating students back into the classroom.
Implement classroom management system as applicable.

Physical Education Teacher (.4 FTE)

Develop the student’s fullest acquisition of knowledge, skills, concepts, and attitudes.

Job Functions

Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods.  Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
Deliver the district’s written, taught and assessed curriculum.
Maintain knowledge and skills with IB Program changes and updates.
Create a positive environment to ensure successful learning for all students.
Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress, and to determine priorities for their children’s social, emotional and academic growth.
Partner with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to support students’ academic and social-emotional development.
Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Adhere to all district policies and procedures.
Support the district’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic issues or special academic interests.
Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools. Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress.
Administer standardized, formative and state mandated assessments and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families and staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Superintendent

The Pine River-Backus Schools’ main office is in Pine River, Minnesota. The school district has an approximate enrollment of 950 pre-kindergarten through grade twelve students.

REQUIREMENTS:

The Pine River-Backus School Board seeks a superintendent who:

  • Works cooperatively with the School Board, provides options and recommendations
  • Acts with honesty and in an ethical manner with the School Board, staff, and community
  • Is visible and accessible to the School Board, staff, students, parents, and community
  • Is a “people person” with proven abilities in human relations and communications
  • Has knowledge of and experience with special education needs and/or a diverse student body

Previous superintendent experience is preferred, but not required.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

A competitive compensation package, with a salary range of $115,000—$135,000, will be negotiated commensurate with experience and qualifications. The contract length is negotiable as provided in Minnesota statute.

School Psychologist

This position will be responsible for providing school psychology services for students in Early Childhood through first grade at the Primary School in the Chisago Lakes School District. Successful candidates are passionate and skilled in using innovative best practices and desire a broad, progressive role within the school system (e.g., Multi-Tier System of Supports, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, data-based decision making, functional behavior assessment/behavior support plans, direct service with students). This position will be responsible for coordinating high quality academic and behavioral programming for students in two of our federal setting IV programs located within the Chisago Lakes School District.  Students attending these programs have needs in the area of Social Behavior (Pathway to Change Program), as well as combined needs in Social Behavior and Communicative Disorders (Skill-Building for Academic Resiliency-SOAR Program). Successful candidates are passionate and skilled in using best practices in social behavior programming, data-based decision making, and providing direct service to students. In addition, this position requires a high level of collaboration and creative problem-solving with a variety of individuals, including the program coordinator, service coordinators, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, mental health providers, and county social workers.
