Brainerd Learning Center is seeking a caring, and supportive person to join our team in the fall of 2019-2020 teaching Social Social Studies and electives. This candidate with would primarily with students in grades 9-12 to promote academic growth in a unique environment that provides students with flexible scheduling, along with traditional and individualized learning options.  The successful candidate will provide a personalized educational experience that is tailored to meet the individual needs and goals of each student, as well as assist student in exploring career options that will lead them to be a contributing member of our community. Candidate must hold a Minnesota Teaching License, in the are of Social Studies is preferred.

Principal

The Principal is the chief academic officer, responsible for leading the academic efforts of the school, especially the successful and supportive education of students (grades 5 – 12). The Principal reports to the Head of School. The Principal leads the school in developing academic excellence through teaching and learning. All faculty and academic staff members report to the Principal. Saint John’s Preparatory School is a Catholic school in the Benedictine tradition enlivened by values of community, hospitality, stewardship, and justice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the academic life of the school, including curriculum.
Responsible for assessment and evaluation of teaching and student learning.
Oversees the development of curriculum and curricular innovation.
Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, professional development, and nurturing of faculty excellence through annual renewals and oversight.
Represents the school to students, faculty, staff, and parents.
Creates a positive school culture, and oversees the holistic development of students.
Responsible for overseeing the accreditation process (ISACS); and compliance with laws, regulations, and state educational standards.
Collaborates with other administrators to achieve the school’s goals; and actively plans as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Responsible for coordinating school safety programs including disaster preparedness, emergency drills, safe environment training, and related safety training.
Understands the unique character of a diverse student community with a residency program.Responsible for administering a school wide behavior management program, which utilizes positive behavior interventions.

DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum

Master’s degree.
Three years teaching experience.

Preferred

Master’s degree in Education Administration.
One to three years prior principal/administrative experience.
Experience with educational programming at an administrative level.
Experience with college preparatory curriculum.
Experience with International Baccalaureate.

Skill and Abilities

Excellent writing, public speaking, interpersonal and listening skills.
Ability to create a positive and collaborative working environment.
Ability to acquire an understanding of the character and vision of Saint John’s Abbey.
