School Guidance Counselor – Elementary

C.E. Jacobson Elementary School (PK-6) is looking for a full-time (1.0 FTE) guidance counselor.

The licensed school counselor is responsible for providing a school counseling program that is preventative in design, supportive of our school’s MTSS instructional and social-emotional frameworks, developmental in implementation, and will work with elementary aged students to serve the academic, social, and emotional needs of students.

Further responsibilities include: individual, small, and scheduled whole group sessions with students, working extensively within the MTSS social-emotional framework (providing Tier 1 and Tier 2 supports), block scheduling, tracking absences and contacting parents, preparing students for transition to high school. Serve as a consultant/partner with educators, families, and community members. Intervening during crisis situations. Other duties as assigned.

Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to demonstrate the school-wide PBIS expectations with students so the learned skills transfer back into the general classroom.

Position Location: Pine City Elementary School

Position Purpose:
The School Social Worker/School Counselor position brings unique knowledge and skills to the school system and the student services team. School Social Workers/School Counselors are trained mental health professionals who can assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy. School Social Workers/School Counselors are instrumental in furthering the mission of the schools, which is to provide a setting for teaching, learning, and for the attainment of competence and confidence. School Social Workers/School Counselors are hired by school districts to enhance the district’s ability to meet its academic mission, especially where home, school, and community collaboration is the key to achieving student success.

Essential Duties:

  • MTSS Implementation
    • Promote and assist in effective and efficient school-wide implementation of an MTSS framework for both academics and social emotional learning, in partnership with building administrators and teams
    • Collaborate with the county, school district, and education district to implement a screening process to promote early intervention with students at-risk for mental health problems
    • Participate in the Student Assistance Team (SAT), Problem Solving Team (PST), Student Support Team (SST) and/or other data team meetings within the building(s) of assignment
    • Collect information to identify and analyze problems and develop, implement, and evaluate intervention plans
    • Provide consultation to parents and/or teachers regarding social emotional learning and/or academic difficulties, utilizing the SCRED 5-step problem-solving model: Problem Identification, Problem Analysis, Plan Development, Plan Implementation, and Plan Evaluation
    • Assist in conducting needs assessments to support various resource allocation and/or programming decisions
  • Social Emotional Learning Assessment and Services
    • Complete screenings to assist students, families and school staff in determining appropriate social emotional and/or mental health supports, both internally and through outside agencies
    • Support families in arranging for services from an outside agency and gather relevant school information to assist in evaluating the effects of treatment as requested
    • Provide direct Social Emotional Learning (SEL) services to individuals, small groups, classrooms, or school-wide, as requested
    • Provide direct counseling services to individuals or groups, as requested
    • Assist in the design and delivery of Extended School Year services for students on IEPs who have mental health needs
    • Provide SEL-related education and consultative services to school staff and families
    • Complete function-based behavior assessments (FBAs), when deemed appropriate by the Problem Solving Team or Student Support Team
    • Assist in the development of Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), in collaboration with staff to write Behavior Support Plans, and track BSPs data with integrity checks
    • Gather and organize data to assist teams in making manifestation determination, when needed
    • Plan and implement professional learning opportunities regarding SEL at SCRED and building(s)/district of assignment as requested
  • Crisis Response Services
    • Facilitate crisis response procedures and participate in the school’s crisis team at the discretion of the building principal
    • Provide consultation in crisis prevention and response
    • Complete student risk assessments when necessary
    • Assist in completing student threat assessment activities when necessary
    • Provide an immediate response to students, families, and school staff in crisis situations and determine when a referral to an outside agency is needed
  • School Engagement
    • Assess students’ levels of engagement/withdrawal by monitoring risk factors such as attendance, tardiness, behavioral referrals, poor academic performance, and in-school or out-of-school suspensions
    • Respond on a regular basis to students’ educational needs according to their type and level of risk for disengagement from school
    • Provide regular feedback to students and families about their overall progress in school and in relation to specific risk factors

Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP)

Position Description:
The SLP will be a critical team member of the St. Croix River Education District’s growing birth to three early childhood special education (ECSE) team, serving districts across the St. Croix River Education District, including Chisago Lakes, Rush City, Hinckley-Finlayson, and East Central.

Position Purpose:
The Speech/Language Pathologist (SLP) provides early intervention services to children ages birth through age 2 years 11 months with developmental delays and/or disabilities and their families. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, this SLP will partner with and be a resource to families to help produce the best possible developmental outcomes for their infants and toddlers in the most natural learning environment.

Essential Duties:

  • Identification, Screening and Evaluation
    • Assist in the completion of early childhood developmental screenings
    • Complete multi-disciplinary team evaluations and assessments of infants and toddlers (as deemed appropriate by screening results, medical records, or evaluation team decision) to determine developmental strengths and needs for each child and priorities of the family
    • Synthesize assessment data and evaluation results to make eligibility determinations set forth by the state of Minnesota
    • Serve as a member of the Interagency Help Me Grow committee, as appropriate
  • Service Delivery
    • Provide direct and indirect speech/language services to infants and toddlers, ages birth through 2 years 11 months, and their families as specified within each learner’s Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) throughout the calendar year.
    • Prepare and maintain an efficient schedule for delivery of all early intervention responsibilities
    • Assure compliance with special education procedural requirements and due process timelines
    • Prepare individual program plans, periodic reviews and progress reports according to due process guidelines
    • Prepare activities/plans to use for coaching the caregivers which are consistent with the family’s priorities, individual program plan, and routines within the home setting
    • Coach and model to parents or caregivers the appropriate skills/activities to use in working with their child
    • Determine developmentally appropriate materials, assessment tools, and/or adapted equipment for use with infants and toddlers, and their families
    • Assist in ordering materials and diagnostic tools
    • Facilitate accommodations and modifications to materials, assistive technology, and the home environment
  • Curriculum and Instruction
    • Provide input on curriculum and instruction development, selection, and implementation as requested
    • Assist in the development and procurement of accessible materials, as needed
  • Consultation and Collaboration
    • Act as IFSP service coordinator and work cooperatively with special education personnel, families and other service providers
    • Work collaboratively with member districts to ensure smooth transitions into district programming
    • Identify community resources and assist families to access these resources
  • Professional Learning
    • Actively participate in local early childhood committees, as well as other regional or state professional learning opportunities
    • Provide training and consultation regarding augmentative/alternative communication, articulation, language, voice, and fluency, as needed.

Special Education Teacher, ESY, Cornerstones Program, Buffalo, MN

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for assisting in assessing and identifying students with special needs according to Minnesota eligibility criteria. The Special Education Teacher plans for providing input, development and implementation of individualized education programs and instruction in academic and behavioral areas in collaboration with other educational professionals, parents and administrators. Depending upon assignment and license, Special Education Teachers provide specialized instruction in addressing student needs and learning.

ABOUT CORNERSTONES:
Cornerstones is a therapeutic setting IV, multi-school district program located at the Wright Technical Center in Buffalo, MN and managed by MAWSECO. This program serves adolescents, grades 7-12 with emotional and behavioral needs that cannot be met within their home school district. The primary goal of the program is to provide educational support along with social skills training to acquire skills necessary to become independent learners in order to return to their home district as soon as possible.

ABOUT MAWSECO:
MAWSECO is an agency of seven-member school districts (Annandale, Dassel-Cokato, Delano, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Litchfield, Maple Lake and Rockford) that have joined together to provide services in the area of special education. The mission of the Cooperative is to provide quality special education leadership, services, and support to its seven-member school districts’ staff, students and families as well as other agencies/districts that purchase its services. The MAWSECO central office is located in Howard Lake, MN which is west of the metro and south of St. Cloud.
