The Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA) is seeking a motivated leader to serve as Executive Director to continue to guide the organization’s efforts in being the voice for Greater Minnesota education and advocating for what puts learners first. The successful leader will begin work on or around July 1, 2020, and receive compensation for services commensurate with experience and in accordance with other like organizations. Applications for either a long-term contractor relationship or direct employment will be considered.

Position Requirements:

The prospective leader must have held a significant leadership role in a school district and/or a like organization to MREA. Professional licensure in related fields is desired. Successful experience in organizational leadership, membership services, and advocacy is preferred.

Desired Qualifications of Contractors/Applicants:

  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and direction of the MREA team.
  • Ability to manage the MREA budget and a good grasp of school district funding and finances.
  • Strong communication skills including writing, speaking, and listening as well as evidence of a high emotional intelligence quotient and empathy.
  • Evidence of interest in advocacy (with the public and legislature) that will lead the Board to feel that these skills can be developed both in Minnesota and nationally.
  • Strong leadership skills with the MREA Board, the greater MREA membership, and among other advocacy organizations.
  • An orientation toward understanding rural education needs and embracing a rural ethic.

Major Responsibilities for the Position:

  • Provide executive leadership for MREA Board Of Directors, chair, and committees.
  • Provide executive leadership for MREA Management Team in a virtual environment.
  • Represent MREA effectively statewide.
  • Coordinate advocacy work of the MREA team.
  • Lead and manage effective member services.

MREA Information:

  • MREA strives to be the voice for Greater Minnesota education through effective legislative advocacy and member engagement. It is a 501(c)4 nonprofit membership association, celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2020.
  • MREA is funded primarily by annual membership dues from 230 Greater Minnesota public school districts and by dues from 92 education-associated businesses, nonprofit organizations, and educational entities.
  • MREA’s 21-member Board of Directors is comprised of elected and appointed members representing geographic membership zones across the state. Directors include school district superintendents, board members, teachers, and other educational administrators, with 0 to 10+ years of experience on the MREA Board. The board meets 4 times per year in various locations throughout Minnesota and also meets prior to its Annual Conference.
  • MREA has one office in St. Cloud with two employees: a full-time administrative coordinator and a casual part-time office assistant. MREA contracts with the Executive Director, a legislative director, a communications director, and an accountant for year-round services and contracts with other professionals for services as needed. The Executive Director and other contracted professionals currently provide their own offices elsewhere.
  • The present Executive Director has led MREA since 2011. The organization has experienced tremendous growth during this time and needs to remain focused on its growth to continue funding its advocacy and membership efforts.

Superintendent

The Maple Lake Schools is seeking candidates for the full time position of Superintendent of Schools. The successful candidate will begin work on or around July 1, 2020 and will receive a competitive salary and benefit package commensurate with experience and qualifications.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must hold a license as Superintendent of Schools issued by the State of Minnesota or be eligible to obtain a license at the time the application is submitted. Experience as a school superintendent is preferred. Experience as a principal or similar public school district administrative position is otherwise required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge and experience in the general administration of a comprehensive program of instructional and support services for pre-K through 12th grade students and community education patrons.
  • Proficiency in communications and public relations including a record of positive involvement in the community.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of instructional and support programs for learners of all ages.
  • Knowledge and experience in the management and development of school personnel.
  • Knowledge and experience of Minnesota public school finance and school district financial management including budget development, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge and experience in positive interactions with the local School Board and other governmental units.

SCHOOL DISTRICT INFORMATION:

  • The Maple Lake School District serves 830 k-12 students. In addition, children, families and other district residents are served through early childhood and community education programs. Maple Lake services are located on one convenient campus.
  • The district employs 130 licensed and non licensed staff members including one K-6 Principal and one 7-12 Principal, a Community Education Director shared with Annandale Schools, an Activities Director, and a Child Study Coordinator employed by MAWSECO. The district contracts transportation services and the management of food services.
  • Maple Lake is located 30 miles southeast of St. Cloud and about the same distance west of the Twin Cities. Neighboring communities include Monticello to the northeast, Buffalo to the east, Howard Lake to the south and Annandale to the west.
  • The district’s operating budget is approximately $10 million. Maple Lake is in a strong financial position with a growing fund balance. The district passed an operating levy in recent years; this contributed significantly to the district’s financial health.

Alternative Site Specialist

Alternative Site Specialist located in Buffalo MN for Meeker & Wright Special Education Cooperative (MAWSECO) #938

1.0 FTE position

Anticipated Start Date:  July 1, 2020

Position Description:

The Alternative Site Specialist works with the Executive Director to develop and coordinate the Program to assure all students with disabilities are served appropriately.  This includes staff recruitment, monitoring compliance of due process procedures, orientation and staff development, curriculum and program design and implementation, management functions related to assigned program, activities and staff.  Staff includes teachers and assistants and other related and support service personnel as assigned.

Background Information:  MAWSECO is an agency of seven member school districts (Annandale, Dassel-Cokato, Delano, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, Litchfield, Maple Lake and Rockford) that have joined together to provide services in the area of special education. The mission of the Cooperative is to provide quality special education leadership, services and support to its seven member school districts’ staff, students and families as well as other agencies/districts that purchase its services.  The MAWSECO central office is located in Howard Lake, MN which is west of the metro and south of St. Cloud.

Birth to Three Screener – Temporary Position

The St. Croix River Education District (SCRED) is seeking a licensed early childhood educator to fill a part-time, temporary early childhood screening position for infants and toddlers, ages birth to three years for each of the six SCRED member districts: Chisago Lakes, North Branch, Rush City, Pine City, Hinckley-Finlayson and East Central. This position requires 20 hours per week and will start December 2nd, 2019 and end June 30th, 2020. The schedule for this position is flexible and can be set based on availability.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate weekly with the Early Childhood Administrative Assistant to gather files and materials needed to conduct screening
  • Check inventory of screening materials and work with the Early Childhood Administrative Assistant to replenish materials, as needed
  • Complete file reviews for current referrals to gain an understanding of concerns and other information provided by the parent/guardian
  • Gather and complete necessary due process paperwork
  • Directly administer early childhood screening assessments using appropriate tools
  • Score, interpret and analyze screening results
  • Determine appropriate next steps for each child screened, based on completed screening results
  • Share results with parents and upload into electronic filing system
