Math Specialist and School Advocate

The Regional Centers of Excellence (RCEs), in partnership with districts, schools and charters, focuses school improvement and turnaround efforts on equity and underserved student groups so that schools can meet the needs of each student and ensure that each student benefits from a high-quality school.

The Advocate and Math Specialist builds the capacity of districts, schools, and charters to engage in continuous improvement, to implement the World’s Best Workforce legislation and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The ultimate goal of this position is to close achievement gaps, while increasing achievement and graduation rates for all student groups. This is a year-round, full-time position.

  • knowledge and implementation of current mathematics research and evidence-based practices
  • knowledge and implementation of Minnesota State Academic Standards in mathematics
  • knowledge and experience in core, supplemental, and intensive intervention approaches for K-12 mathematics instruction
  • facilitate, guide and build capacity with RCE colleagues and educators around mathematics standards and instruction
  • understanding of how mathematical practices contribute to mathematical beliefs and how beliefs inform mathematical practice

Position description:

Reading Specialist Competencies:

  • extensive knowledge of Minnesota’s Academic Standards for English Language Arts, current reading research and evidence-based practices, and proven methods for implementing theory into practice
  • experience with [ELA] standards implementation processes (e.g., unpacking standards, curriculum alignment, standards-aligned assessments) to support educators in teaching within a standards-based educational system
  • ability to support evidence-based practices in reading instruction and assessment in core content areas, supplemental programs, intensive intervention, and out of school programs to build the capacity of school staff to increase student achievement for all students in PK-12 reading, writing, language arts and English instruction
  • ability to share expertise to interpret diagnostic reading, writing, and oral language assessments and make instructional recommendations based on current best practices and appropriate tools for specific situations
