Major Areas of Accountability:

1. Teach students assigned to Alternative to Suspension Program in their current enrolled courses;
Communicate with students` home school liaisons regarding assignments;
2. Keep appropriate data related to student performance while attending the Alternative to Suspension Program;
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to effective learning;
3. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individual(s) or student groups involved:
4. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student;
5. Maintain accurate up-to-date attendance records for all students;
Supervise students in out of classroom activities during the assigned workday;
6. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals and methods;
7. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Through a staff of more than 200 employees Community Education provides unique educational, service, volunteer and leadership experiences that serve an essential function in our school district. In metaphorical terms, Community Education creates and delivers experiences that provide mortar for the bricks of learning upon which our community enhances its future.

Job Summary:
The Director of Community Education reports to the Superintendent of Schools and provides innovative leadership in planning and directing programs and services in the areas of early childhood programming, youth programs, volunteer services, family involvement, adult learning, district and community partnerships and community use of facilities by creating a culturally competent and inclusive leaning environment that reflects our community and enhances student learning.

Essential Duties

Keeps the Superintendent and the Board of Education informed of potential to expanded programs and services.  Updates Superintendent and Board of Education on current programming and report on progress towards goals articulated on the Strategic Plan.
Develops and maintains effective structures to garner community input into programs and services provided by Community Education.
Provides leadership for development and implementation of a comprehensive Community Education program.  This includes seeking ongoing opportunities to collaborate with K-12 programs and community leaders in order to enhance and support learning that aligns with the District Strategic Plan.
Develops strategic and tactical plans for programs and services offered by the Community Education Department.
Prepares and submits appropriate reports to local, state, and federal agencies and the Board of Education.
Develops and administers the Wayzata Community Education program budget.  Has expertise in non-profit funding opportunities.
Serves as the primary liaison between the Wayzata Community Education Advisory Council and the Superintendent, participates on city councils and various community organizations regarding issues related to Wayzata Community Education.
Serves as a member of the Strategic Leadership Team as the leader of district-wide community education issues and strategies.
Builds and fosters community partnerships and engagement opportunities to enhance programming needs.
Develops and maintains School Board policies, District protocols, and operational plans related to Wayzata Community Education that are in compliance with state and federal law and are consistent with the District’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.
Understands educational environments and demonstrates creativity and innovation in collaborating with building principals to build programs and opportunities link community resources with students needs to further impact student achievement.
Assumes other responsibilities as assigned or apparent.

BA minimum, MA preferred with a minimum of five years of experience in Community Education administration.  Currently holds, is eligible for, or is willing to obtain an administrative license as Director of Community Education.
