Hours: Monday thru Friday 8.0 hours per day, 12 months
* Special Education Director’s License/Administrative license required. Additional licenses in ASD/EBD experience in administration or leadership in Setting 4 K-8 programs preferred.
Job Summary:
Supervise all aspects of assigned special education, related services, and other student services programs in Federal setting 3 and 4 programs, to insure that the programs meet State and Federal guidelines and that appropriate education is provided for students with disabilities or special needs. The Coordinator will also coordinate staff development and consult with District Administration and Staff to support students with IEPs. The Coordinator will develop a yearly work plan with the Student Services Director which will identify areas of emphasis and unique duties.
Essential job functions include the following:
SUPERVISION OF PROGRAMS:
Coordinate interviewing and hiring of teachers and paraprofessionals with principals.
Conduct teacher performance reviews and monitor special education due process compliance; Conduct program evaluation; Initiate appropriate data collection systems. Maintain staff, fiscal and student records as needed for programs; Write required state reports and applications; Coordinate facility needs with Student Services Director. Allocate resources and manage assigned budgets: For K-8 special education programs. Design long range program goals and plans.
COORDINATION OF PROGRAM AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT:
Conduct staff in-service meeting; Communicate and meet with parent groups; Facilitate/conduct staff development in areas of curriculum and due process; Consult with building teams and principals regarding practices and procedures; resolve staff concerns; Communicate District program and State Department information to staff, principals and the community; Serve as liaison between County/community agencies and schools.
CONSULTATION WITH IEP TEAM MEMBERS TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS IEP’S:
Consult and develop curriculum, materials and strategies for individual student needs.
Participate in the development of Assessment Team Summary Reports for individual students, when necessary; Provide individual case management, when necessary. Facilitate communication with parent(s) to enable development and delivery of appropriate services, or referral for individual students; Participate in collaborative problem-solving with team members regarding a student with special needs; Provide short term, indirect, or consultative services with regular education staff in conjunction with pre-referral of a student for a suspected disability.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
Provide assistance to the Student Services Director with annual Department goals, staff, assignments, general program directions, staff development and parent concerns.
