[+] Ability to work effectively with students and families from diverse backgrounds. Student Services: Academics & Arts [+] Assist students with developing and attaining goals and developing plans. This includes reviewing transcripts and grades regularly, tracking credit progress toward graduation, academic, arts, and behavioral improvement plans, intervention plans, registration and placement, scheduling, test administration, and working with prospective students, including foreign exchange students and their families. [+] Participate in school based multidisciplinary team meetings and events that support student achievement and identify individual student intervention needs (Examples include Child Study, 504, and Attendance). [+] Consult and collaborate effectively with families, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources to address student issues and needs. Student Services: Health & Wellness [+] Is knowledgeable of students with health issues that impact attendance, achievement, or other school related functions. Assists students and families in connecting with community resources, as needed. [+] Works effectively with the administrative team and school staff to meet students’ educational needs should health and wellness issues impact their ability to receive educational services in the current setting. Student Management: Attendance, Contracts, & Truancy [+] Oversees record keeping and communications associated with the school’s attendance policies and procedures for students. [+] Oversees record keeping and communications associated with student attendance contracts. [+] Coordinates all truancy procedures based on the requirements of a student’s county of residence. Student Management: Decorum & Discipline [+] Identify and facilitate individual and small group interventions to support developmental, preventative, and remedial needs of students in the school. [+] Implements positive behavioral interventions and strategies to assist students in conflict resolution. [+] Effectively enforces school policies and procedures regarding student decorum and discipline in a fair and just manner. [+] Maintains complete, accurate, and compliant communication and documentation of disciplinary action taken and does so in a timely manner. Student Management: Safety, Security, & Supervision [+] Maintains a visible presence in the school, particularly during times of student movement. [+] Assists in developing and implementing practices of campus security and student safety. [+] Coordinates and conducts all required emergency drills. Reports any issues of compliance.
Literacy Teacher
The Minnesota Department of Corrections has an opening for a Special Teacher at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Provide appropriate and effective classroom instruction in an individualized manner to offenders including preparing, maintaining, and assessing Personal Education Plans (PEP) for each student, and maintaining a well-managed, comprehensive instructional environment. -Perform all classroom administrative functions in a timely manner for accountability purposes. -Manage special projects for the Education unit. This position has direct contact with offenders.
