Assistant Director of Special Education/Principal (Deaf/Hard of Hearing Program and Related Services)
Assignment Location: Gideon Pond Elementary, Burnsville, MN and other Dakota County locations Contract Length: 12 months Start Date: July 1, 2017 POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the general direction of the Director of Special Education, the Assistant Director of Special Education/Principal assists with the direction and implementation of staff, students, special education programming, evaluations, reporting, curriculum, and related work as assigned based on the programs he/she oversees. It is imperative that this role maintains continual oversight of all personnel within his/her team. The Assistant Director regularly utilizes comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of school administration, including curriculum and program development for students receiving special education services, and issues related to special education law, finance, and due process. As a manager of staff, this individual is able to develop and present ideas effectively, while establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with district staff, member districts, parents, consultants, students, and the general public. RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordination and supervision of preschool through high school level site-based programs for learners who are deaf/hard of hearing. Staff scheduling, instruction and curriculum support of a bilingual-access language-of-instruction model using spoken/cued English and American Sign Language. Coordination and supervision of purchase-of-service birth through grade 12 low-incidence programs provided to ISD 917 member districts, including: audiology, blind/visually impaired, deaf/hard of hearing, physical and health disabilities, physical therapy, sign language interpreter/cued language transliterators, deaf/blind intervener assistants Continuous program improvements Process and assign ongoing referrals Recruit, interview, train, support, discipline, and evaluate staff Oversee and monitor initial and ongoing eligibility for services Serve as the administrator for individualized educational plans (IEP). Monitor due process compliance and adherence to the provision of educational services Continual professional development Assist with the development of the budget; monitors and facilitates budget implementation Aid in implementation of plans for the management of student behavior Supervise and monitor ongoing data input Coordinate and facilitate staff development activities Serves and represents the District at various committees and meetings
