The successful Family and Consumer Science Teacher will be an individual who firmly believes: all students can learn and that their learning can be directly influenced by focusing on factors over which we have control that student learning guides practice and decision-making throughout the school and system in shared accountability and responsibility through working interdependently in fostering a commitment among staff and parent communities to create the conditions for equity and excellence resulting in elimination of the achievement gap in a model that promotes professional reflection and continuous improvement has demonstrated: successful experience in facilitating high-quality professional learning and remarkable outcomes through application the ability to effectively manage and lead change, including changing practices and structures in our school system that may perpetuate inequities based on race and class outstandingskills in written and oral communication, talent management, and school operations effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication tool to improve student achievement and manage work personal professional learning and development through a strong understanding of literature related to education, student learning, and leadership the ability to manage dialog effectively, valuing alternative points of view in planning and decision-making that he or she is a visible instructional leader courage to do what is best for students

1.0 FTE Elementary Steam Specialist/Elementary Interventionist Location: John F. Kennedy Elementary School 1.The Elementary STEAM Specialist is a highly qualified teacher with significant skills in the area of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics instruction. The STEAM Specialist’s primary responsibility is to provide direct instruction on the principles of STEAM with first through fifth grade students. The STEAM Specialist will provide expanded learning opportunities for students to develop STEAM skill sets and focus on occupations that require a significant level of STEAM knowledge and skills. Using grade level Essential Learnings, the instructional focus is on integrating science, technology, engineering, art and math using an interdisciplinary approach. The focus for instruction is helping students apply the principles of engineering design using project-based learning. Collaboration between the STEAM Specialists and the classroom teachers is required to ensure consistent, high quality implementation across all elementary buildings. The STEAM Specialist will participate in local, state, and national professional development activities to continually increase competency in STEAM instruction. Planning will be done in a PLC structure in collaboration the classroom teachers under the direction of the principal.
