Position Title: Assistant Superintendent of School Excellence and Innovation

Department: Office of the Superintendent

Position Summary:
With the focus to support and advance the Edina Public Schools’ vision, mission, and core values, the Assistant Superintendent serves an integral role in leading district-wide initiatives, overseeing building and department leadership and school improvement efforts, and ensuring student achievement gains.
Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the delivery of innovative, equitable, inclusive, educational programming within a school climate that is welcoming to all students and conducive to learning.

Section II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership
• Under the guidance of the superintendent, provides instructional and operational leadership for principals, program supervisors, and teaching and learning. Guides and supports key building and district leaders to create innovative learning environments to achieve the district’s vision, mission, and core values.
• Builds instructional leadership through coaching in the areas of school and department improvement planning with a particular focus on instruction, data analysis, intervention, and developing capacity that results in improved student achievement.
• Supports principals and department leaders to assess the core competencies that teachers need to
implement curriculum, deliver instruction, and improve student outcomes.
• Oversees and supports the Edina Virtual Pathways (EVP) program.
• Creates, facilitates, and implements high level professional growth opportunities for building and department leaders.

School Community and Strategic Planning Leadership
• Serves as the Superintendent’s designee in school improvement planning, strategic initiatives, academic and student policy design and implementation, and school community relations.
• Conducts regular school visits to observe instruction, develop standards, establish priorities, and set goals for improving student achievement, teacher development, and school performance.
• Maintains clear, consistent communication channels with students, families, and school community stakeholders to receive input and feedback on the effectiveness of schools, resolve concerns, and support their needs.
• Oversees, interprets, develops, and informs district academic procedures and student policies.
• Creates a collaborative culture and establishes effective communication channels between the district office, schools, and community groups.

Operational Leadership
• Partners with the Director of Marketing and Communications to monitor student resident and open enrollment for expected and unexpected fluctuations. Collaborates with Superintendent regarding class sizes and classroom space opportunities and challenges.
• Works with the Directors of Human Resources and Finance and Operations regarding the district’s staffing plans for licensed and non-licensed staff.
• Facilitates monthly operational meetings to provide information, obtain reactions, determine options, and reach group decisions among district and building leadership.

Culture, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership
• Ensures the consistent use of culturally competent school system practices at the building level to meet the needs of each and every student.
• Incorporates the Tools of Cultural Proficiency in decision-making at all levels of the school district.
• Supports the district’s equity and inclusion initiatives and operationalizes these initiatives consistently at and across all school buildings.

Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required.
• Communicates the district’s vision, mission, core values and beliefs and provides professional expertise and assistance to individuals, other district staff, and the community concerning areas of expertise and knowledge.
• Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, district, and departmental meetings. Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, and technologies.
• Attends work regularly and punctually.

Section III: Essential Skills Required to Perform Position Duties
• Establishing and maintaining professional and courteous working relationships with staff, colleagues, students, parents and guardians, and the community.
• Recognizing and coaching quality instructional strategies, concepts, principles, methods, practices, and trends dealing with instructional methods.
• Supervising, delegating authority, mentoring, and monitoring leaders in the conduct of their school building and department responsibilities.
• Delegating effectively including assigning tasks so they can be accomplished in a timely and appropriate manner, utilizing staff appropriately, and monitoring completion of tasks.
• Engaging in public relations activities to promote the educational programming of the district.
• Working with parents and guardians in problem-solving and in addressing their concerns and issues within the policies and procedures of the district.
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to meet deadlines.
• Communicating both in writing and verbally and the ability to build effective, collaborative relationships with the school district’s administration, school board, staff, and community to achieve school district goals.
• Developing and presenting complex issues, proposals, and concepts in an understandable manner.
• Using judgment and discretion in handling issues in accordance with the policies and procedures of the district.

Assistant Director of Finance

Edina Public Schools is seeking an experienced and collaborative-minded professional for the position of Assistant Director of Finance.  With the focus to support and advance the school district’s mission, vision, and core values, the Assistant Director of Finance provides leadership and coordination of the school district’s financial planning, budget, and management functions.  This position directly supervises Accountants, Accounting Specialist, Accounts Payable, Payroll Manager and Payroll Specialists. The Assistant Director of Finance supervises the day-to-day activities of department employees to ensure an orderly workflow, compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures and effective use of available resources. This position coordinates preparation of the school district’s budget and the annual external audit, develops and maintains the district’s cash management system, creates and maintains the district’s accounting systems and processes, and facilitates all district financial state and federal compliance reporting. Position reports to: Director of Finance and Operations

NON-AFFILIATED SALARY AND BENEFIT PACKAGE*:
Salary: $129,250 – $140,064, depending on qualifications and experience.
Vacation: 25 days vacation/year

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
Required:

Minimum of three (3) years of related experience required.
Master’s degree required in finance, business, accounting, or related field.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially spreadsheets to layout accounting tables and perform complex calculations
Understand basic business processes (payroll, purchasing, accounting, accounts payable) and detailed business requirements (financial reporting, budgeting, internal control and statistics).

English Language Arts Teacher

Multilingual Community and Communication Specialist – Spanish

General Purpose of Job:  To inspire and prepare each and every scholar with the confidence, courage, and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by proactively building and maintaining supportive relationships that strengthen multilingual scholar and family connections to school and support the elimination of racial, cultural, and linguistic disparities and isolation to achieve equitable student achievement.

Responsibilities: Primary duties include creating and coordinating projects and tasks related to electronic, print, and verbal multilingual communication between Osseo Area Schools and its stakeholders; advocating on behalf of multilingual scholars and families; and liaising and collaborating with district and community resources to develop and manage comprehensive scholar and family outreach and engagement activities.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholder groups including scholars, families, community organizations, and district staff.
Serve as a main contact for multilingual parents and scholars; assist scholars and families in overcoming barriers to access and engagement; orient new multilingual scholars and families to the district and our schools.
Assist site administrators in providing a climate that supports and welcomes multilingual scholars and families to Osseo Area Schools; make recommendations to administrators on creating environments that are safe, welcoming, and inclusive for multilingual scholars, families, and community members.
Plan, develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive multilingual communication and engagement activities that are timely, meaningful, and relevant in coordination with school and district administrators, including the Family and Community Engagement and School/Community Relations teams.
Provide school and district-level interpreting and translating services so multilingual scholars, families, and staff receive and understand oral and written communication in their preferred language; attend parent-teacher conferences to assist with communication between staff and families.
Create and implement content updates for district and school websites and social media channels.
Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, human services teams, and other school staff to identify and connect with students who need additional academic and/or social/emotional support.
Work directly with individuals or groups of multilingual scholars and families to address specific needs.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to establish learning partnerships through youth and parent programming.
Help scholars and families engage their cultural and linguistic capital to experience schooling in a transformative way.
Advocate on behalf of multilingual scholars and families; surface issues and concerns to appropriate resources for consideration and resolution when necessary.
Facilitate meetings between scholars, families, and school staff who are from diverse cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds to aid home/school communication and assist in the resolution of misunderstandings and conflicts due to cultural differences and language barriers.
Serve as a resource to which multilingual families and community members may come to receive or request information about Osseo Area Schools.
Liaise and collaborate with school and district staff and community resources to identify and provide appropriate services for scholars and families that transform their schooling experience for equitable results.
Provide potential connections to resources for scholars and families as needed, including being a link between the school and community resources.
Identify and interface with local community resources and agencies that work closely with multilingual, immigrant, and refugee communities.
Develop relationships between Osseo Area Schools and community resources.
Build connections with communities and assist scholars and families with accessing and participating in district programs, committees, and activities.
Required Qualifications:

2 years of college plus three to five years of relevant work experience or a bachelor’s degree
Must be fluent in English and Spanish.
Level of proficiency required: able to read, write, and speak all styles and forms of the language fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs. Proficiency level must be equivalent to that of a native professional.
Experience with interpreting and translating, preferably in an educational setting
Experience working with populations of various racial, cultural, economic, and linguistic backgrounds
Experience working with youth and families in various racial, cultural, economic, and linguistic settings
Desired Qualifications:

Effective oral and written communication skills; skilled with Microsoft Office/Google Drive applications, including word processing and email
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse individuals and groups in a variety of settings
Ability to generate enthusiasm and motivate youth and adults
Effective organizational skills and the ability to work on several projects simultaneously; adaptability and flexibility to meet extenuating circumstances and evolving needs
Ability to create collaboration among groups of internal and external groups-ability to form bridges between home and school environment and access community resources
