Family and Consumer Science – .4 FTE

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a valid MN Family and Consumer Science license and CTE certified or able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board.

Job Summary:

Responsible for providing an educational environment that will help student in learning and fulfill their growth potential.  May teach topics that include nutrition, child development, household economics and goal setting, money management, careers and more.

Qualifications:

  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge and skills in areas of culinary arts, food science & nutrition, health & wellness, human development & family studies
  • Be able to process the skills to build relationships and develop a strong understanding of high school students
  • Enthusiasm to build a strong FACS program at Mahtomedi Middle School
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents and staff

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction and clear communication in the curriculum area
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Update all necessary records accurately as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
  • Attend department, school and parent meetings or functions
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Social Studies Teacher

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a valid MN Social Studies license, or able to obtain the appropriate license from PELSB, Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in school setting and/or previous experience working with elementary students
  • Strong knowledge of social studies and state standards
  • Collaborate with team members in a PLC, striving to implement best practices for instruction and assessment
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to build relationships with students, colleagues, and community
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents and staff

Responsibilities:

  • Identify the needs of students through formal and informal assessments
  • Plan, develop and implement appropriate lessons to ensure the achievement of student growth
  • Communicate with students, parents and staff on regular basis on student progress
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Foster a community where all people are valued, respected, seen and heard
  • Inspire robust academics, critical and creative thinking and continuous personal growth

Special Education Agency Advocate

Facilitate communication between learners, parents and school staff to develop healthy, positive attitudes toward academic success, and learner development.
Facilitate communication about individual learner plans and how parents can engage in the learning at home.
Develop relationships and work cooperatively as a team member with all school staff to support learners’ academic performance, achievement, attendance and/or behavior.
Attend parent and IEP meetings as needed to review learner’s progress.
Attend meetings, in-services and workshops as required.
Track progress of academic and behavioral interventions for students.
Fully understands and ensures the fidelity of interventions, accommodations, and modifications for identified special education students.
Organize, support, and facilitate student learning in the resource room
Direct/redirect the work and responsibilities of paraprofessionals as it relates to implementation of individual learner plans.
Work with identified student(s) to reinforce motor, academic, social, self-care or communication skills under the direction of the teacher.
Assisting teachers in creating strategies for reinforcing skills based on understanding of learner needs, interests and abilities.
Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to student’s special medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and academic needs.
Facilitate small group intervention within general education classes.
Help in management of behaviors with special education learners. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior using Crisis Prevention and Intervention strategies, as needed.
Guide students in working and interacting appropriately.
Assist and supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the special education classroom.
