Position Overview

The successful candidate will be an individual who firmly believes:

Primary Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

• providing guided instruction and specific interventions to accelerate students who are identified as at-risk
  meet the needs of students on IEPs;
• co-teaching with classroom teachers and working with small groups of students will be necessary for student success

Preferences
We strongly prefer candidates who have exhibited excellence in collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm to work with students.  Preferred candidates will also have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning as evidenced by graduate-level work or an earned degree, as well as participation in professional organization conferences or seminars related to the content area.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have earned a B.A. or B.S. degree and current Minnesota State Licensure in Elementary Education, SLD.  Additional demonstrated qualifications include:  commitment to the equitable education of all students; creative planning and organizational skills, and highly effective interpersonal skills. Previous experience working with elementary level students using differentiation, guided reading, and technology skills preferred.   Prefer candidate with experience working with diverse learners.

Licensing Requirements
Current Minnesota Elementary Education, SLD license, or eligibilty, required.

1.0 FTE Special Education teaching  to work with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) at Northpoint Elementary School with students in grades K-4.

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to…

• creating and delivering ability and age appropriate lessons in a setting 3 classroom;
• leading a team of paraprofessionals in meeting students’ needs;
• communicating with parents to provide regular updates on student successes and challenges;
• Collaborating with principals, special education coordinator and staff, and professional learning communities, to ensure student needs are being met;
• maintaining student records of services provided, following Due Process best practices and compliance;
  acting as a Case Manager for students in your classroom and participate in IEP and evaluation summary meetings; and
• perform other related duties, as assigned.

Experience:

Desired previous experience/knowledge includes…

• successfully working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and a strong desire to do so;
• writing solid Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
• applying current trends in the field of behavior interventions and support;
• utilizing standardized assessment tools;
• effectively collaborating with a team; and
• constructively communicating with parent/guardian and team members.

Qualifications:

Must meet these qualifications…A current Minnesota Special Education Teaching License in ASD or ABS.
The ability to lift up to 50 pounds (and/or up to adult-size body weight with two-to-three-person lift).

• Use instructional strategies aligned to Spring Lake Park’s K-12 Science Framework: anchoring phenomena, conceptual modeling and sense making to understand phenomena, and scientific discourse and argumentation;
• Use a balanced assessment system, including assessments for, of, and as learning, to provide feedback and determine next steps in student learning;
• Create a learner-centered environment that allows students to engage with each other and in their learning;
• Engage in professional learning and coaching to improve instructional practices;
• Collaborate with colleagues to meet the strengths, interests, and needs of students;
• Communicates regularly with families to keep them informed of student progress in science
