Middle School English Teacher

JOB DESCRIPTION

Saint Thomas Academy employees advance the mission of the Academy by developing the intellectual, spiritual, moral, and physical potential of each student and by cultivating the practice of leadership so that each student has the skills and confidence to be a leader.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize student engagement
  • Utilize a variety of instructional techniques to meet the individual needs of students
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Encourage student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits
  • Conduct a middle school advisory, helping the students to develop both academic and non-academic skills and encouraging them to connect with each other and their teachers
  • Develop and implement reasonable behavior expectations and appropriate classroom management techniques
  • Recognize academic/social/emotional struggles and make referrals to the counseling department as appropriate
  • Use effective oral and written expression
  • Assist in the ongoing curriculum articulation and review process
  • Utilize appropriate digital tools and resources
  • Maintain the learning management system (LMS) and electronic gradebook as indicated by the school
  • Provide additional time beyond the regular schedule for tutoring, as necessary

  • Maintain regular communication with parents through multiple avenues, including parent-teacher conferences, e-mail communication, and phone calls

  • Assess student learning on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods
  • Provide student progress reports as indicated by the grading deadlines
  • Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with school policies and state/federal privacy laws

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to improve knowledge of subject matter, maintain professional licensure, and improve best practices
  • Collaborate in planning efforts as called upon by department or administration
  • Attend faculty, department, and committee meetings as scheduled

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Learning Specialist

Saint Thomas Academy seeks a part-time (0.6 FTE) Learning Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year. Reporting to the office of Student Services, qualified candidates are willing to embrace the mission of Saint Thomas Academy and the philosophy of the Student Services Department.

 

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

● Maintain a caseload of approximately 20 students on Learning Plans

● Proctor extended time exams for students on Learning Plans. This may include being a scribe or reader, depending on the student’s particular accommodation

● Maintain frequent and effective communication with parents, students, faculty, staff, and administrators through in-person conversations, telephone, and email

● Create, implement, scan, and download learning plans and accompanying documentation

● Responsible for monthly college scholarship newsletter

● Coordinate ACT and College Board accommodations for students with learning plans

● Coordinate early College Counseling outreach to underclassmen

● Support College Counseling with test prep and standardized testing

Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists (SPCPA) is a public high school in the heart of downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. Students complete required academic credits and conservatory-style training in the arts provided by professional artists in preparation for college and conservatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Case management and maintaining appropriate due process files.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student due process records as required by state and federal laws and school district standards.
  • Confer with parents, administrators, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) designed to promote students’ educational, social, and emotional development.
  • Establish appropriate academic and behavioral expectations for students and communicate those to students and their families.
  • Create lessons and learning environments that are safe, respectful, and conducive to achieving goals.
  • Select, adapt, and individualize materials to meet students’ needs, including developmental, cognitive, and social needs.
  • Regularly assess student learning by using multiple forms of assessment.
  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions.
