School Social Worker

GENERAL PURPOSE:

To assist students of all diverse backgrounds with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address potential mental health issues. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school administrators, and community based resources, the school social worker implements strategies that promote a positive educational process for all students.

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Valid MN credential authorizing pupil personnel services as a school social worker (K-12).

·        Masters degree in counseling or social work or related field such as psychology.

·        Evidence in-depth knowledge of special education programs

·        In-depth experience working with individuals with exceptional needs

 

 

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Provides psycho-social assessment and diagnosis of behavioral disabilities with recommendations and/or environmental manipulations at the school, home and/or in the community with periodic reevaluations

·        Identifies and assess academic problems through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment

·        Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting

·        Determines and implements appropriate therapeutic strategies to effect changes in behavioral-social interactions of students with potential mental health issues

·        Provides individual and group therapeutic counseling to students and their families

·        Develop interventions for promoting students’ academic success

·        Provides social work case management for students with mental health issues

·        Serves as liaison with community agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders

 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

·        Understanding of the early onset of mental health signs and/or symptoms

·        Knowledge of current state law/regulations regarding school proficiency standards

·        Leadership skills in working with individuals and groups

·        Ability to counsel students, parents, staff and lay persons individually and in groups

·        Skills in conducting effective meetings and conferences

·        Skills in socio-environmental analysis and diagnosis on problem students

·        Knowledge of community resources

·        Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a variety of personality types and dispositions in numerous circumstances while maintaining a controlled, tactful, respectful, professional manner

·        Excellent team player skills with positive attitude

Marketing-Recruitment Specialist (Karen)

GENERAL PURPOSE:

 

The Marketing/Recruitment Specialist will be an integral part of a school wide approach that will ensure academic success for all students and support the reputation and growth of the district. The Marketing/Recruitment Specialist will assist the school with overall marketing efforts that includes the development and execution of marketing plans to reach families and communities.

 

Professional Responsibilities:

·       Serves as the point person for student recruitment and enrollment

·       Keeps fully informed and knowledgeable about district programs

·       Promotes the district by sharing its mission, highlighting district programs and features, district achievements, and news about the district.

·       Responsible for going door-to-door and to businesses to proactively engage parents in discussions involving school options and student enrollment

·       Utilizing bilingual abilities, involve families in participation of events that assist parents with decisions to become a part of the district

·       Arranges visits and tours for prospective students and parents

·       Coordinates parent orientation meetings with appropriate district personnel

·       Maintains and updates current record of student enrollment

·       Collects and organizes all required documents for enrollments and follow-up with missing information and documents

·       Perform other duties as required by senior administration

 

 

Qualifications:

·       A minimum of a High School degree or two years of college level education is preferred

·       Must possess a valid MN driver’s license

·       Understand class and cultural backgrounds of families and how to interpret culture of school to them

·       Thinks and acts in ways that respect ethnic, cultural and language diversity

·       Communicates successfully with families, administrators and students

·       Displays interpersonal and organizational skills

·       Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of programs including Word and Excel

·       Must read, write and speak proficiently in Karen and English

School Nurse

GENERAL PURPOSE:

To enhance the educational process of students by maximizing their health and well-being, modifying or removing health-related barriers to learning, and promoting an optimal level of wellness. To provide preventive health services to facilitate the students’ optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identifies problems and provides services as case findings, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Supports the education process by working to assure the health of all students.  Follows state and local health practice statutes, district policies, and administrative guidelines.

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minnesota School Nurse License or meets qualifications to obtain license through MDE

Registered Nurse in Minnesota

Must be certified in CPR

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

·        Knowledge of principles and practices underlying professional health care

·        Knowledge of current trends and literature in the field of school health

·        Knowledge and previous experience with organization and administration of office environment as well as administering student medicine

·        Knowledge of state and local laws relating to health and social issues

·        Effectively present information and respond to questions from students, staff, parents, and the general public

·        Must have the ability to make decisions on their own

·        Demonstrates a genuine interest in the student population and its health needs

·        Must be a self-starter and be self-motivated

·        Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and other professionals

·        Effectively and professionally communicate in both written and oral format

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Maintains and updates student attendance and health records

·        Conducts or assists in the conducting of vision and hearing screenings

·        Performs health screenings and assessments for students and students referred for suspected health problems

o   Obtains a health history

o   Screens and evaluates findings as indicated during screenings

·        Supervises prescribed medical treatments and medication administration according to School Board policy

·        Provides assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management, and referral for appropriate medical care of students with acute/chronic health conditions and in emergency situations

·        Coordinates the provision of first aid supplies

·        Assists in the development and implementation of a student health plan, when necessary

o   Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel

o   Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel or health agencies

o   Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students

·        Maintains, evaluates and interprets cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs

·        Plans and implements school health management protocols

·        Coordinates school and community health activities and serves as a liaison health professional between the home, school and community

·        Acts as a resource person in promoting health

·        Responsible for student withdrawals (updating, maintaining and submitting student records)

·        Follows additional duties as assigned by the senior administration

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·        Sitting and possibly standing for long periods of time

·        Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and moving objects of up to 10 pounds

·        Occasional climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crouching
