The Eden Prairie School District is seeking applicants for Principal of our Cedar Ridge Elementary School. Cedar Ridge Elementary has a staff of 128 that serves approximately 510 students. The ideal leader must have experience regarding curriculum development and evaluation, be a skilled communicator, possess above average interpersonal skills to work with a diverse population among our students, parents and community. Position requirements:

  • Minnesota Elementary Principal License, or ability to obtain
  • 3-5 years of successful experience in public school administration and/or supervision

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tasks involved in fulfilling above duty/responsibility:Responsible for posting, screening and interviewing custodial applicants for new employment and inter district applicants for promotion or transfer to vacant positions in building supervised in accordance with the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement;
Assigning and directing cleaning and maintenance schedules for custodial staff;
Evaluating the performance of all building level custodians on an ongoing and periodic basis including written reviews and providing timely feedback/coaching;
Initiating corrective discipline such as verbal and written reprimands and recommends suspension or discharge as necessary to correct unsatisfactory conduct or performance;
Approving and monitoring vacation and sick leave requests;
Keeping accurate records of absenteeism, performance and progress of employees;
Receiving and responding to building occupant requests as appropriate;
Communicating effectively with principal, business manager, building staff and other department supervisors;
Coordinating building events, setups and other activities including scheduling of HVAC equipment and lighting;
Ensuring custodial equipment is maintained and operated according to manufacturers’ recommendations;
Initiating and recommending operations and capital improvement budgetary needs;
Ordering building custodial supplies to maintain appropriate levels of inventory;
Soliciting vendor quotes to ensure competitive pricing and quality products and/or services;
Ensuring all mechanical heating and cooling systems are being monitored within the legal limits of state and local laws;
Ensuring completion of all periodic safety inspections, documentation and maintaining records.
Establishing and maintaining sustainable cleaning standards, cleaning zone maps, and cleaning assignments for each staff member with stakeholder input;
Setting goals making observations, collecting data, and assessing the performance of all custodians;
Inspecting the quality of the custodial work to insure that the services provided are meeting the standards established in the custodial service model;
Conducting research and working collaboratively with the facilities operations team and industry experts to establish efficient and effective housekeeping means and methods;
Overseeing contractor performance for projects completed inside their facility:
Assessing facility improvement needs and providing recommendations to the Coordinator of Facilities Operations;
Assigning all yard work tasks as required to maintain district standards including, but not limited to, watering, mowing, trimming, pruning shrubs, trees, weeding, removing paper and debris from school yard and along fence lines;
Assuming responsibility for snow removal and keeping sidewalks free of ice.
Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
Education/ Knowledge Requirement: Minimum of a HS Diploma or GED.

Required Work Experience in Addition to Formal Education/ Training:
Five years of experience as a building engineer preferred, with at least eight years in the field of housekeeping and/or facilities maintenance.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Identify licenses/certification required upon hiring:
Must have MN Chief C Boiler License upon hire.  If the building has a pool, must obtain CPO license within six months of employment.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Partnership – 25%

Support the district and HR team through transitions, by managing the human impact of these changes.

In partnership with the HR team, lead the recruitment, selection and staffing efforts across the district for licensed and non-licensed staff, including job description creation, posting job vacancies, and applicant screening.
Collaborate with leaders to identify and address workforce development needs.
Provide guidance and technical support to hiring managers throughout the selection process.
Manage job postings and ensure compliance with district and union procedures.
Actively participate in training, onboarding/offboarding processes, and ensuring new hires are effectively integrated into the district.
Set salaries and apply labor contract provisions for new hires.
Performance Management – 10%

In partnership with leadership, implement performance appraisal systems and provide coaching to supervisors about the process.
Ensure implementation of specific development plans for licensed and non-licensed staff.
Work with school sites and leaders to provide support and assistance in achieving department/site/personal & professional goals.
Provide guidance on goal setting, performance reviews, and professional development plans.
Conduct employee meetings and assist in training and development sessions on various topics as needed.
Other Duties – 5%

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field; OR
Equivalent combination of HR certification and minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional HR experience.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google tools and applications, and HRIS systems.
Experience seeing the “big picture” and developing long-term HR strategies.
Highly effective writing skills and strategies, and communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
In-depth knowledge of all human resources disciplines, with a focus on recruiting, employee relations, project management, staff relations, and talent management.
Extensive experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing human resources.
Strong knowledge of labor agreements and their impact on payroll and human resources.
Experience working collaboratively in a diverse work environment.

Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the district’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives.
Provide expert guidance on HR matters, anticipating challenges and proposing proactive solutions to drive organizational success.
Support the district and HR team through transitions, by managing the human impact of these changes.
Communicate effectively with all levels of leadership to enhance their understanding of Human Resources processes, functions and solutions.
Drive initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness and efficiency. Facilitate change management processes to support the district’s evolving needs.
Utilize HR metrics and analytics to assess the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives. Provide data-driven insights to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
Participate in operations meetings within HR and provide insight and guidance on all Human Resource related topics.
Policy, Procedure and Best Practices – 25%

Ensure compliance with state, federal and local employment laws and regulations through efficient administration of district HR policies, procedures, programs and initiatives.
Provide guidance to staff and leadership on labor contracts, benefits, district offerings, etc.
Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures that align with best practices and legal requirements, as assigned.
Collaborate with union representatives and serve as a primary resource for understanding and guidance regarding contracts.
Serve as a resource for questions related to medical, dental, disability, life insurance, and flexible benefits.
Support open enrollment processes and benefits communication.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, COBRA, and deferred compensation policies.
Employee Relations – 25%

Maintain visibility with all employees and address any issues and concerns that are identified in a timely and professional manner.
Work directly with leaders and supervisors to effectively promote positive employee relations.
Address complex employee relations issues, conduct performance and attendance investigations, and provide recommendations for resolution and implement resolutions.
Provide guidance and support between employees and leaders to resolve conflicts and improve workplace relations.
Recruitment and Selection and Staffing – 10%

In partnership with the HR team, lead the recruitment, selection and staffing efforts across the district for licensed and non-licensed staff, including job description creation, posting job vacancies, and applicant screening.
Collaborate with leaders to identify and address workforce development needs.
Provide guidance and technical support to hiring managers throughout the selection process.
Manage job postings and ensure compliance with district and union procedures.
Actively participate in training, onboarding/offboarding processes, and ensuring new hires are effectively integrated into the district.
Set salaries and apply labor contract provisions for new hires.
Performance Management – 10%

In partnership with leadership, implement performance appraisal systems and provide coaching to supervisors about the process.
Ensure implementation of specific development plans for licensed and non-licensed staff.
Work with school sites and leaders to provide support and assistance in achieving department/site/personal & professional goals.
Provide guidance on goal setting, performance reviews, and professional development plans.
Conduct employee meetings and assist in training and development sessions on various topics as needed.
Other Duties – 5%

Attend professional development workshops, seminars, and training.
Lead functional HR projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field; OR
Equivalent combination of HR certification and minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional HR experience.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google tools and applications, and HRIS systems.
Experience seeing the “big picture” and developing long-term HR strategies.
Highly effective writing skills and strategies, and communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
In-depth knowledge of all human resources disciplines, with a focus on recruiting, employee relations, project management, staff relations, and talent management.
Extensive experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing human resources.
Strong knowledge of labor agreements and their impact on payroll and human resources.
Experience working collaboratively in a diverse work environment.
Experienced in investigation procedures and practices regarding workplace concerns, allegations, incidents, etc.
Demonstrated ability to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment with multiple competing priorities.
Preferred

Experience working in a school setting and/or nonprofit organization.
Familiarity with K-12 public education systems, policies, and compliance requirements.
Multilingual.
SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP)

Salary: $72,064 to $89,630 annually
Job type: Full-time, 260/261 days per year
