Principal Middle School

Student Support Specialist (Middle School)

Facilitates utilization of evidence-based and positive behavior practices that help student develop; support programmatic changes and individual approaches to student behavior, and assist staff in developing individualized interventions.   Designs and maintains behavioral support systems in the building.  Promotes a positive behavioral support mindset with staff and students.

Job Functions

Develop equitable systems by leading positive behavior programs and strategies such as Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) initiatives, BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Innocent Classroom, and de-escalation techniques.
Develop interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
Develop procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
Communicate with appropriate teachers and other district staff personnel as necessary on behavior matters.
Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, families and community members.
Actively participate in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data.
Provide work direction and guidance to Student Behavior Assistants on strategies to address student behaviors, de-escalating techniques, and re-integrating students back into the classroom.
Provide behavioral assistance to families as requested by the principal, teacher, or district staff.
Conduct workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally challenged students in alignment with district programs.
Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
Implement classroom management system as applicable.
Adhere to district policies and procedures.
Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.

School Counselor (Middle School)

Job Summary
To provide a comprehensive counseling program that supports student academic, social, physical and personal career development in a secondary school setting.  This is accomplished through planning and preparation, maintaining an educational environment, teaching academic and life skills, and providing professional responsibilities to our staff, students, and parents.

Job Functions

Implement or assist in implementing a safe school climate that results in academic and personal success for all students.
Adhere to all district policies and procedures.
Support the district’s mission, vision and values.
Provide guidance to help students cope effectively to personal, social, academic, and family concerns.
Support the total need of each student (educational, personal and social), encourage maximum growth and development.
Arrange student intake meetings.
Arrange student shadowing opportunities and work with families to set up tours of the building.
Introduce Career Exploration topics.
Ability to present on relevant topics in a classroom setting.
Attend student, staff and parent meetings as deemed appropriate.
Assist the school assessment coordinator as needed, organize and administer MCA, ACT, and NWEA assessments and use data for future course enrollment and offerings.
Collect and analyze data to evaluate the success of student guidance, counseling and career development plans.
Consult and coordinate with staff, parents, and community resources.
Assist in implementing on-site crisis intervention/management plans.
Consult and collaborate effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.
Monitors student academic performance, behavior and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions.
Create a system to address academic needs and tracking of student credits through graduation.
Knowledge and understanding of the IB Program from course scheduling to testing options for students.
Encourage parent and community involvement.
Other duties as assigned.
