The Westonka School District has approximately 2,450 students, kindergarten through grade 12, served by nearly 190 teachers and 170 support staff. Westonka Community Education and Services offers classes for lifelong learners of all ages—infants to senior citizens. District facilities include an early learning center, two primary schools (PreK-grade 4), one middle school (grades 5-7), one high school (grades 8-12), an educational service center and a transportation facility.

Westonka’s scenic location, on the western bays of beautiful Lake Minnetonka, provides all the advantages of metropolitan living blended with the leisurely pace of a small town atmosphere. District 277 is a short 12 miles west of Interstate 494 and Interstate 394 (US Highway 12). The district includes approximately 19,857 residents and encompasses 30 square miles in Hennepin County. It serves all or part of eight suburban communities: Minnetrista, Mound, Spring Park, Navarre, Orono, Shorewood, Lyndale and Independence.

High School Principal

Primary Function: In accordance with the Westonka Public School District vision, mission and strategic plan, provide instructional leadership and management of the educational program to maximize learning in an 1000-student school serving grades 8-12, and supervise and evaluate teachers and other staff.

Student Management Specialist

Description:   A Student Management Specialist uses restorative practices to build and maintain relationships between students, teachers, and parents. They help students to grow and to improve behavior while creating individual interventions for students. They also plan for and maintain school-wide systems, structures, and discipline. They are ambassadors for our community and believe passionately in the potential of our students.

 

Job Summary: 

  1. Assists principal in the overall administration of the middle school program;
  2. Performs as a resource for teachers and staff who express concerns for student attendance, student development and/or discipline;
  3. Coordinates efforts with guidance, police liaison officer(s), school psychologist, and/or social worker in meeting with students and parents to discuss improving student attendance and/or behavior;
  4. Consults with families via conference or communication systems concerning student attendance and behavior;
  5. Resolves student behavior concerns in a fair and timely manner and maintains records of disciplinary or referral actions taken;
  6. Closely monitors the physical plant of the schools and grounds and follows-up on student vandalism;
  7. Assists in the interpretation of school district programs relating to student substance abuse and truancy;
  8. Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules effecting student behavior;
  9. Assists in discussing strategies to improve student performance, attendance and development;
  10. Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security;
  11. Maintains active relationships with parents, families and students;
  12. Assists in establishing rules governing students sent to the in-school suspension/detention room;
  13. Responds to written and oral communication regarding student development and discipline matters;
  14. Serves as a member of such committees and attends such meetings as directed by the principal;
  15. Assumes responsibility when all administrators are out of the building;
  16. Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities within the overall scope of the position which the principal may assign.

Lower School CORE Teacher

This position will work closely with grade level teachers and the Director of Teaching and Learning to develop and lead grade level specific project-based learning experiences. This teacher will serve as a Lower School Specialist serving grades K-5 in our Specialist rotation.

Upper School Learning Specialist

Minnehaha Academy has an opening for a Learning Specialist (Teacher) in the Upper School for the 2022-2023 school year. This is a full-time, benefit eligible position.

The Upper School Learning Specialist (Teacher) will work directly with students, staff and parents to improve student achievement by providing research-based instruction, interventions and strategies to enhance academic success for students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group instruction for students in a variety of academic subjects
  • Instruct/Mentor individuals and groups of students to strengthen academic skills including test-taking strategies, study skills, time and homework management, and techniques for communicating with teachers
  • Participate in data analysis meetings to monitor student growth
  • Provide testing accommodations for students
  • Attend and contribute to student support team (SST) meetings
  • Report regularly to parents on student progress
  • Coordinate accessibility to audiobooks and assistive technology
  • Develop and maintain communication and documentation protocols related to learning support (create, update, and maintain student learning plans and database as needed)
  • Assist with requesting accommodations for student standardized testing in partnership with the guidance department
  • Coordinate services for students with MPS IEPs
  • Collaborate with counseling office to provide mental health support
