· Has the organizational skills which go along with coaching students in an educational setting (rosters, schedules, practices, communication, equipment inventory, etc.)

Community Schools Site Coordinator

The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our team as a Community Schools Site Coordinator! This position will assist in establishing the program at the Brooklyn Center Early College Academy.

With the supervision of licensed staff, The Special Education EA will assist with the implementation of a comprehensive educational program for students in an inclusionary setting, instructing or delivering services to students, assisting classroom teachers by working with individual students or small groups with related work as apparent or assigned, and encouraging engagement and participation during ESY and summer program activities. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal.

Job Summary: The Community Schools Site Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Full-Service Community Schools’ model. Under the limited direction of the Manager of Community Schools, this key position will assist in implementing expanded learning opportunities, integrated student supports, and community and family engagement through collaboration, resource sharing, and data tracking. The Community Schools Site Coordinator will work closely with families and school staff with the goal of bridging communication; providing information on programs/services available to students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; and fostering ongoing partnerships between the home and school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Support alignment, and successful delivery of a Community Schools model.

· Communicate Community Schools’ philosophy and programs to all stakeholders.

· Identify, recommend and recruit potential resources and partnerships; negotiate partnerships and maintain MOUs/contracts in collaboration with the Manager of Community Schools.

· In collaboration with the Manager of Community Schools and Family Liaisons, coordinate the Family Resource Room and its services.

· Coordinate community outreach to increase awareness and support for Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) activities and events.

· In collaboration with district staff, participate in community events to increase community engagement efforts.

· In collaboration with school Principals, provide ongoing family engagement support for staff and teachers.

· Support expanded and enriched learning opportunities during the school day and by coordinating high-quality out of school time programs including, but not limited to 21st Century and Targeted Services.

· Hire, onboard, and directly supervise identified staff.

· Identify and coordinate student leadership opportunities in collaboration with the Manager of Community Schools.

· Research, analyze, and synthesize data to provide suggestions for programmatic decisions maintaining a lens for access and equity.

· Support topic-specific Action Teams such as Student Support Team, Health Resource Center Advisory, Family Resource Team, etc. through coordination of services and partnerships.

· Engage in joint planning and communication about expanded learning, family and community engagement, and integrated student supports with the principal and key community stakeholders.

· Conduct ongoing resource mapping and needs assessments.

· Monitor and evaluate programs and activities through check-ins and continuous quality improvement plans.

· Participate in community committees and meetings to stay abreast of local efforts and resources to help move Community Schools forward across the state.

· Identify and coordinate parent leadership opportunities; co-lead Parent Advisory Committee, and coordinate building level family/community engagement team.

· Attend meetings and training sessions as required.

· Other duties as apparent or assigned.

Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s degree and previous experience working with diverse populations and urban school settings preferred. Previous experience with and understanding of family resource navigation, education, community development, communications, social work, youth studies, etc.

Essential Skills Required to Perform the Work: Ability to relate and communicate effectively with people of different cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; Ability to understand and work with various community agencies and their delivery systems, including schools, county, state, and social service agencies; Possess a high level of interpersonal skills; Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks with efficiency; Detail-oriented; Ability to structure and manage responsibilities independently with minimal direct supervision; A systems thinking approach, with the ability to make connections and align services to better support student engagement and learning. The ability to ignite and support change, encouraging leaders to be open to new approaches to collaboration, time and resources, with the goal of achieving improved outcomes; Strong oral and written communication skills.

Essential Knowledge and Specialized Subject Knowledge Required to Perform the Essential Functions of the Job:

· Thorough knowledge of school and district rules, regulations and procedures

· Knowledge of the Community Schools model

· Knowledge and understanding of effective community partnerships and community and civic engagement experience

· General knowledge of grant and project reporting, including data collection and evaluation

Physical Job Requirements: Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and exposure to bodily fluids; may need to be able to wear a mask while working during pandemic outbreaks; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Job summary:
Provides support and instruction to parents, guardians, and families with children birth-5 years through home visits and the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) setting.  Creates learning opportunities that are culturally responsive to strengthen families and support healthy growth and development.  Plans and facilitates classes on child development and parenting with a balance of education and support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

· Ensures parenting education is accommodating and suitable to ALL families and aligns with the Brooklyn Center Community School District mission, vision, and values.

· Build rapport and relationships with parents/families.

· Lead and facilitate parenting education groups/activities.

· Plan and implement family-focused integrated curriculum using the Parent Education Frameworks Early Childhood Indicators of Progress.

· Provides/offers support, strategies, and resources to promote the development and strengthening of parenting attitudes, knowledge, and skills.

· Model and teach parents/families effective strategies in relating to, and teaching, their children.

· Cooperatively team with the early learning program staff to provide family education.

· Provide instructional leadership to other support staff and classroom volunteers within the classroom.

· Coordinate and host home visits and or community-setting visits.

· Provide outreach and promote ECFE programs to underrepresented families.

· Perform a variety of marketing and outreach tasks, such as making connections and building relationships with programs/services and other professionals who work with families, promoting parenting and family engagement throughout the program/district/community.

· Attends meetings and training sessions as required.

· Other duties as assigned.

Position Details: .5 FTE Parent Educator, 4 hours a day / 193 workdays

Qualifications and Requirements:

· Must hold a valid Minnesota Parent Educator license.
