Summary/Primary Objective of Position:
Minnetonka High School is seeking a dynamic and skilled educational leader in either of two roles: Associate Principal or Assistant Principal. Successful candidates for an associate principal role will have extensive prior leadership experience, with current high school, head principals given preference. Candidates for an assistant principal role will have significant prior leadership experience as a dean, department head or assistant principal in another setting. In both instances, the selected individual will assist with the implementation of the vision, mission and goals of the district at the high school level. The assistant/associate principal will share in providing instructional leadership to the staff; lead efforts in ensuring excellent teaching and meaningful student learning; work in program development; supervise students and employees; manage and see to the safety of the school campus; and ensure faithful implementation of School Board policies.
Associate Principal Job Responsibilities:
Assist the principal in providing leadership in the development of and the fulfillment of the school’s vision, mission, and goals. Support the principal in administrative assignments.
Serve as a member of the District’s administrative team and actively participate in the development, implementation, and achievement of District and building goals.
Provide daily work direction and support to the assistant principals and ensure implementation of building operational goals and a positive school culture.
Supervise employees in the Student Affairs Office. Ensure oversight of student disciplinary issues and follow-through with administrative team, teachers, and staff that enhances school culture.
Lead and provide oversight to complex student issues and HR issues and investigations.
Provide oversight and leadership of MHS signature programs, as assigned.
Provide leadership for the instructional leadership teams.
Participate in the recruitment, selection, staff development, and evaluation of staff members.
Communicate with parents, community members, and parent organizations concerning school programs and activities.
Develop and complete mutual commitments tied directly to District goals.
Serve as administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal.
Attend student activities, games, and special events. Be a visible presence in the school.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Assistant Principal Job Responsibilities:
Assist the principal in developing and carrying out the school’s vision, mission, and goals.
Serve as a member of the District’s administrative team and actively participate in the development, implementation, and achievement of the District’s goals.
Build strong, deep and authentic relationships with students, staff, parents and community members. Communicate with parents, community members, and parent organizations concerning school programs and activities.
Participate in the recruitment, selection of staff members.
Collaborate with the Student Support Services team.
Maintain high standards for student behavior and enforce discipline as necessary in accordance with student handbook and district policy;
Attend student activities, games, and special events. Be a visible presence in the school.
Supervise and evaluate licensed and non-licensed staff.
Lead professional development in the building.
Be responsible for building security for property and persons, including providing supervision of specific areas of the building.
Serve as the principal’s designee at school and at professional public meetings as directed.
Attend local, state and national conferences, conventions and workshops as assigned.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
