Assistant Middle School Principal at Minnetonka Middle School East

Minnetonka Middle School West (MME) is one of two middle schools in the Minnetonka Public Schools.  MME currently serves approximately 1,300 students in grades 6-8.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the principal in providing leadership in the development of and the fulfillment of the school’s vision, mission, and goals.
  2. Serve as a member of the District’s administrative team and actively participate in the development, implementation, and achievement of District goals
  3. Responsible for working with students on disciplinary issues, entering into counseling relationships, making necessary referrals to other staff members and communicating directly with parents, as appropriate.
  4. Actively participate in the recruitment, selection, staff development, and evaluation of staff members.

Nature of Work:

Incumbents are responsible for teaching students in assigned disciplines in classrooms, small groups, or at home; adapting teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests; developing individual educational plans designed to promote students’ educational, physical, or social development; establishing and enforcing rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students; administering tests to help determine students’ developmental levels, needs, or potential; and conferring with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, or administrators to resolve students’ behavioral or academic problems.

Typical Class Responsibilities: 

– Implements and delivers instructional activities to students; instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and resources; monitors and assesses student progress and competency mastery, which includes: identifying appropriate assessment methods; developing and administering tests; grading assigned student work; providing performance feedback; and performing other related activities.

Speech Language Pathologist

Nature of Work:

Incumbents are responsible for providing clinical and educational service to students with communication disorders, and providing consultation to families, teachers and other staff. Responsibilities may include: conducting communication screenings, assessments and evaluations for students and analyzing test results; providing treatment to students with communication disorders using various tools, techniques or strategies; providing direct or indirect services in alignment with IEP’s; providing recommendations, consultation and trainings to families, teachers and other staff; and preparing a variety of reports, documents and correspondence.

Typical Class Responsibilities: 

– Performs IEP (Individualized Education Program) evaluations regarding language, speech, voice, cognitive-communication, and related disorders, which includes: administering testing; interpreting results; providing integrated description of client, including diagnosis; and creating and implementing solutions in a classroom setting.
– Manages cases which includes conducting observations, preparing for treatments, and consulting with individuals, families, groups, or staff regarding cases and monitoring case progress.
– Prepares clinical documentation, reports, and/or correspondence, which includes: treatment plans; progress notes; treatment reviews; clinical charts; third party insurance billing; and, other related paperwork.
– Supports classroom staff members on speech-related topic areas.
– Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Braillist

Nature of Work:

Incumbents are responsible for transcribing classroom materials from print to braille. Responsibilities may include adapting images, charts, and related materials following established guidelines; identifying need for use of an outside vendor; format, proof, and bind materials; and ordering materials.

Typical Class Responsibilities: 

– Transcribes classroom materials from print to braille; inputs text either by scanning materials or typing into the designated braille software and technology; and formats, proofs, embosses, and binds materials determines whether materials shall be transcribed internally or through an external vendor.
– Creates tactile materials including images, graphs, charts, and maps.
– Adapts small books by adding braille.
– Orders materials including braille textbooks, workbooks, and literature from State Services for the Blind.
– Creates and/or maintains a variety of forms, files, logs, lists, schedules, records, and other related documentation related to assigned program area.
– Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
