…is interested in co-directing an innovative music curriculum where all students are actively engaged in composing, performing, responding and critiquing music at a high level. SLPHS has a strong jazz program, a diverse range of student musicians, and an embedded composition program. Collaboration within the HS music department and the 5-12 instrumental program is key to maintaining our strong foundation. A successful candidate will exemplify collegiality, innovation in recruitment, and a strong understanding of building equity within the concert and jazz programming.

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
design, rehearse and perform with multiple ensembles throughout the year, including but not limited to, concert bands, multi-level recruitment ensembles, jazz bands, athletic/pep bandsdemonstrates understanding of student and school community populations and reflects that diversity within programmatic, curricular and instructional designs
teaching and developing improvisation, composition and historical jazz curriculum and demonstrate a strong understanding of jazz pedagogy and current practice
selecting repertoire that demonstrates understanding of the student population
maintaining systems of 5-12 recruitment and instrument and music catalog
teaching students in the area of instrumental music – small group lessons and whole ensemble
assessing student learning and developing responses to learning
reporting and communicating to parents and families on an ongoing basis
engaging in professional development.
