Job Summary: 

The Executive Director of Finance has responsibility for financial management and planning in addition to the shared responsibility for broader organizational management, and participates in the development and execution of the District’s organizational vision, strategy and goals. This position has accountability for promoting and sustaining a strong fiscal position for the District through the establishment of sound financial policies and controls, fiscal analysis and effective accounting practices.  This position requires a strategic and insightful finance and accounting professional with excellent communication skills and leadership capabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Directs and coordinates District long-range financial planning.  Directs budget assumptions, processes and procedures; oversees review and approval of all expenditures.  Coordinates and assists in development of the  District annual budget.
  • Establishes a system of accounting and reporting for the financial affairs of the District.  Develops and implements procedures, policies and regulations to assure compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Supervises the preparation and submission of all required federal, state and District reports.
  • Develops expenditure and revenue forecasts and prepares long-range financial planning reports.
  • Provides fiscal counsel to cabinet members, principals, managers and the school board.  Provides leadership in planning for growth and/or decline in enrollment and serving needs of our staff and students.
  • Develops structure and staffing models, hires, trains, mentors, assigns accountabilities and manages department staff and workflow to accomplish department and organizational goals.  Models a culture of customer service that includes proactive and innovative problem solving and prompt incident resolution.
  • Represents the school district in aspects of school district finance.  Provides fiscal reports to the school board.  Serves as a resource for member districts regarding fiscal matters in the relationship between District and the member district.
  • Coordinates and serves as the district representative for all building and remodeling projects at school district sites while providing strategic direction and oversight to the manager of facilities and operations.  Coordinates long-range facilities planning, including new construction, remodeling of existing facilities and future alternative uses.
  • Oversees the District’s risk management insurance programs to effectively manage risk exposure and guard against significant financial loss.
  • Establishes with Purchasing Coordinator, a system for purchasing supplies and related purchasing functions.
  • Manages District investments through the selection and oversight of investment managers, investment institutions, and internal finance staff to ensure alignment and compliance with investment policies and regulations.
  • Evaluates and addresses student transportation issues as needed.
  • Oversees the coordination of the student nutrition programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local laws and regulations.
  • Serves as a strategic advisor to the superintendent and school board for legislative financial proposals.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Language Arts License preferred  – Experience with student intervention work and supporting struggling learners.
Major Job Functions; Specific Tasks/Required Knowledge, Ability and Skills: Monitor student assessment data. Support literacy intervention for students in grades 6-8. Teach or co-teach in the classroom.

Chaska Middle School West is a 6-8th grade learning environment with about 800 learners. We have a growing population of diverse learners and a comprehensive array of programs and experiences for students. Preferred candidates will have experience working in diverse education settings and/or experience working towards equitable student outcomes in education.

Job Functions

Partner with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to support students’ academic and social-emotional development.
Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
Adhere to all district policies and procedures.
Support the district’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan.
Guide and counsel students with adjustment and/or academic issues or special academic interests.
Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools. Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.
Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress.
Administer standardized, formative and state mandated assessments and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families and staff.
Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, families and community members.
Adhere to staff and program guidelines and district procedures and policies.
Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
