English Language Learner (ELL) Assistant

Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department will accept on-line applications for an English Language Learning (ELL) Assistant at Kaposia Elementary School, which includes preschool and elementary aged students.  Based on 2019-21 Educational Support Professionals Contract, the rate of pay is $17.81 per hour, working 6.5 hours per day with a half hour duty-free lunch, Monday-Friday, school days only.

Job Summary
This position is responsible for assisting one or more licensed teachers in providing instructional and/or behavioral support for students whom English is not their first language.

Job Functions

Assist students for whom English is not their first language in all academic areas.  This includes implementing curriculum and adapting instructional strategies and materials according to the needs of the student under the direction of a licensed teacher.
Support licensed teacher in utilizing a variety of learning and behavioral management techniques as needed.
Assist students, as needed, who ride the school bus by meeting them at the bus the first day of class and helping them locate their bus in the afternoon.
Assist students with lunch, media center or other school activities, as needed.
Complete accurate and timely reporting of services and progress for student report cards, progress notes and/or conferences.
Assist classroom teacher in implementing district policies and procedures, including but not limited to emergency procedures, building orientation, confidentiality, student vulnerability, data collection, test administration and classroom management.
Understand and maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
Other Duties as assigned

Hours per day/FTE:  1.0 FTE

Job Description:

Forest Lake Area Schools is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as Literacy Instructional Coach for K-6 beginning fall 2021. This is a TOSA position that will report to the Director of Teaching & Learning and collaborate with the instructional coaching team to support licensed classroom teachers in effective literacy instructional practices in our seven elementary schools.

 

 

Responsibilities

Coach teachers in effective instructional practices in literacy through observation, modeling, co-teaching, mentoring and collaborative planning

Work with teachers individually, in PLCs and within grade level or building teams to provide instructional support and professional development in research-based strategies and best practices in literacy

Provide ongoing professional development and support for the implementation of Reciprocal Teaching, Jan Richardson Guided Reading, and explicit instruction in phonics and phonemic awareness

Plan and facilitate professional development around literacy strategies for both large and small groups

Assist teachers with the planning, sequencing and scaffolding of literacy instruction

Work collaboratively with teachers in determining learning targets, aligning assessments, and leveraging data to inform instruction and support student learning in literacy

Provide resources, guidance, and support for department/grade level colleagues and PLCs around literacy interventions and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners

Establish a relationship of trust and confidentiality with teachers

Collaborate with school and district administration, teacher leaders, and teachers to support high quality literacy instruction

Partner with the schools’ professional development teams and principals to plan and facilitate professional development in literacy instructional strategies and best practices
