Bilingual Classroom Teacher (Spanish / English)

Position Purpose:

To provide an enriching academic development and learning environment that promotes learning and is appropriate to the maturity, interests and learning styles of ACC students. Develop a linguistically and culturally appropriate educational program. Work with directors, educational team and other staff to ensure ACC’s mission, values, vision and curriculum objectives are supported, modeled, infused throughout the curriculum, and taught to the students.

Line/Staff Relationship:

Immediate Supervisor: ACC Principal
Work closely with Support Staff, Administrative Assistants, other Teachers, Coaches, etc.

Nature of Work:

Duties will include implementing curriculum that incorporates MN state standards, Latino culture into everyday lessons and activities, creating and maintaining an appropriate classroom physical environment, providing cultural experiences based in Latino cultures, setting up a classroom that is labeled both in Spanish and English, conducting literacy and math assessments, and communicating and engaging parents.

Major Functions and Responsibilities:

Work cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of ACC
Implement valuable and culturally relevant lessons using methods that are appropriate to the levels of language proficiencies of the students
Respect and incorporate the culture, values, history, language, experience and traditions of the students
Deliver differentiated instruction to all students at all ability levels
Implement dual language curriculum in a 60/40 model
Participate actively in weekly PLC’s (Professional Learning Community), bi-weekly staff/team meetings and serves on various school committees
Integrate Latino culture/arts into the curriculum
Plans for and guides the learning process to help students achieve program objectives
Meet with related school personnel, i.e. school counselor and special education teachers to coordinate objectives for IEP’s (individualized educational programs)
Maintains a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning, incorporating social skills instruction o assist students in establishing/maintaining positive classroom and social behavior
Conduct home visits to each family in the classroom and maintain frequent collaboration/communication with student’s families or guardians
Implements useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures, school-wide assessments
Uses effective instructional methods and learning materials
Establishes a cooperative relationship with all assigned students
Engages in professional growth activities through ongoing personal development, skill and knowledge development
Provide positive feedback and reinforcement to students
Abide by professional code of ethics
Utilize specialized approaches for delivering understandable curriculum to second language learners and teach English language development and/or Spanish language development
Develop consistent rules of classroom behavior and procedures, set strong boundaries and high expectations of student behavior
Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner that incorporates ACC values and Responsive Classroom methods
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for volunteer(s)
Be available to work evening hours and weekends on occasion
Participate in non-teaching extracurricular activities associated with the school
Other duties as assigned by the principal

Demonstrated bi-lingual/bi-literacy in English & Spanish
Demonstrate excellent knowledge of innovative teaching methods
Demonstrate excellent knowledge of Latino culture or be willing to research
Demonstrated previous teaching and/or instructional experience in an inner city setting and/or work with urban youth
Ability to integrate technology into the classroom
Demonstrate interest in public school reform and social justice
Commit to the mission, values, and vision upon which the school was founded
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests and learning styles of the students
Work with families and students from diverse educational, socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
Problem-solve and critically assess the skills a student needs using a variety of data
Ability to take advantage of children’s individual interests and use their internal motivation for developing needed skills
Effectively utilize a student’s individual interests and use their internal motivation for developing needed skills
Set high expectations for all students and provide daily success opportunities for all students

Academia Cesar Chavez is a public school open to all students and their families at no cost. We offer services to students and their families in a culturally sensitive and personalized way. Academia Cesar Chavez admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.  We are recruiting a Special Education Teacher for the 2020 – 2021 school year.

Position Purpose:

Under the supervision of the Head of School and special education coordinator, SPED teachers will perform difficult professional work providing broad range of teaching and direct instructional services or specific learning programs, assist scholars to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each scholars’ ability, and use a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work with directors, educational team, other staff and parents to ensure ACC’s mission, values, vision, and curriculum objectives are supported, modeled and taught to the scholars.

Provides research-based special sized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each scholar’s IEP
Assess scholar progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques
Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable scholars to meet their IEP goals
Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for scholars
Maintain compliance of a case load of 10 to 18 scholars ranging in disabilities
Adheres to procedural requirements, include due process timelines
Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives and school board
Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, district and departmental meetings
Remains at school during the entire school day unless excused by the Head of School or the designated representative
Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare and safety of all scholars
Maintains a professional appearance as an example for scholars
Other duties as assigned by Head of School and/or Sped Coordinator

Learn how to value non-academic skills that students bring to class, in conjunction with academic skills
