Description:
To inspire and prepare all students with the confidence, courage and competence to achieve their dreams; contribute to community; and engage in a lifetime of learning by serving as a member of the collaborative and integrated executive leadership team which plans, directs, and coordinates action to achieve the mission and strategic objectives. Provide system-wide leadership and responsibility for the following areas which support E-12 schools and program sites: Educational Equity; Student Services; and Learning and Achievement. Represent the school system at the national, state, and local level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Achieves strategic objectives by: Supporting the superintendent, as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, in coordinating action to achieve the mission.
Serving as the acting superintendent in the absence of the superintendent.
Representing the perspectives, needs and interests for Leadership, Teaching and Learning.
Working collaboratively with leaders in Human Resources, Business Administration, Community Engagement, Instructional & Information Technology, Communications, and with the General Counsel to achieve the mission of the school system.
Representing the school system at the national, state, and local level.
Participating in all School Board meetings and work sessions.
Ensures a collaborative culture by: Adhering to the organization’s core values.
Practicing the language distinctions and promise keeping associated with leadership.
Demonstrating trustworthiness (care, competence, sincerity, and reliability).
Designing and facilitating effective meetings.

Directing the development, implementation and evaluation of projects, including policy decisions, school improvement, individual student progress monitoring, and evaluation of district and school interventions.
Preparing and presenting departmental reports.
Collaborating with other ISD279 departments, public agencies, and community organizations to expand and improve services and best practices for improving student achievement.
Keeping abreast of educational development, reform, and best practices, and working in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary and Secondary Schools in bringing effective, innovative programs into the district schools, programs, and departments.
Providing overall direction for the development and implementation of staff development programs appropriate to the needs of the district and school staff.
Providing professional development for leaders that is both job embedded (finances, budgeting, personnel, staffing, student discipline, staff evaluation) and organization embedded (systems thinking/action, instructional leadership, collaborative problem solving, learning organization).
Overseeing the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum to meet the Minnesota Academic Standards and the needs of students.
Ensuring effective instruction.
Evaluating programs and practices using data.
Ensuring that collaborative teams are setting standards, examining data, and designing interventions for students who have already met and who have not yet met the standards.
Providing adequate student support services to meet the needs of students.
Supporting the instructional process by providing ongoing feedback and assistance through regular site visits, classroom observations, review of data and trends with a focus on student learning and overall school improvement. Leading new initiatives to improve student achievement.
Serving as the catalyst for department continuous improvement.
Ensures effective organizational management by: Collaborating with staff and local law enforcement officials to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
Assuming overall administrative responsibility for personnel, services, and programs in the Learning and Achievement department, Student Services department, and the Department of Educational Equity.
Providing guidance and assistance on system and/or program issues, interpreting policies and procedures, and assuring the consistent interpretation and application of Federal, State, and ISD279 rules and regulations.
Allocating human and financial resources to accomplish the mission.
Maintaining current understanding of laws, policies, and employment contracts which impact schools, programs, and departments.
Setting standards for effective operational practice as necessary.
Effectively communicating operational management procedures and practices.
Coordinating the work of principals, directors, assistant principals, coordinators, and other management personnel to ensure organizational effectiveness.
Evaluating directors and other direct reports.
Completing other duties as assigned by: Performing other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
Required Supervisory Experience:
Five years of successful leadership as a principal and/or central office administrator
Educational Requirement:
Master’s degree required; additional graduate credit or degree preferred
Major field of study or degree emphasis:
Educational Administration with emphasis in instructional programming E-12
Licensure Requirement:
Must hold or be eligible for Minnesota superintendent licensure

Salary Range: $152,839 – 173,469 In addition an annual $10,000 stipend
