Receptionist – Part Time

We will have a part-time opening beginning mid-August, 2020, Monday – Friday, 1:30pm to approx. 5:30 – 6:00pm (or whenever the daily school bus routes have been reported as completed for the day.)

Ideally, you would have bi-lingual Spanish Language skills to better assist or families and guests or be comfortable speaking conversational Spanish language, but this is not mandatory.

Some occasional flexibility in your schedule to substitute and provide coverage for other receptionist staff scheduled time off would be helpful. This could mean 8:00 – 3:00pm

or 7:00 – 2:00pm, Monday – Friday. Again, preferred but not mandatory.

General Overview

Provide routine clerical and secretarial assistance for Academia Cesar Chavez to include answering the telephone, typing, drafting correspondence, documents, copying, making admissions appointments and general filing of student records. Other items may be added as needs change.

Reporting

The Receptionist reports to the Family & Community Director
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by this Director in accordance with the policy and procedures for evaluating administrative staff.

  • Answer telephones, screen incoming calls and direct callers to the appropriate person
    or take messages
  • Route incoming mail
  • Greet and direct families and visitors in a friendly and professional manner when they come to register, drop students off, and pick student up
  • Provide visitor badges according to ACC rules and state regulations
  • Foster an environment of cooperation and productive public relations and working relationships with students, parents and community agencies by answering any inquiries they have or direct them to the appropriate person
  • Perform a variety of administrative support functions such as prepare bulletins, correspondence, notices, and make copies for distribution
  • Operate office equipment as necessary
  • Assist with all clerical needs for Kindergarten Round-Up, student registration, parent/teacher conferences, parent workshops, special events, and parent orientation
  • Gather information from parents during orientation and registration. Create an address list to be submitted to Director for approval and sent to Transportation contact that will create student bus list
  • Submit bus list from Transportation to Director for approval and distribution to teaching staff. All busing changes must be reviewed and approved by Director
  • Maintain student emergency database
  • Assist in notifying parents in cases of student illness, injury, or medication needs, and related situations, as requested by the Director or School Health Assistant
  • Participate in fire and severe weather drills by notifying staff over the intercom of emergency procedures and assisting in helping with student evacuation
  • Prepare enrollment packets for new incoming students and schedule appointments for Director to meet one on one with parents
  • Ensure that ACC student files are copied and sent to the transfer school in a timely matter
  • Enter all returning and new student information into JMC software program
    in a timely manner
  • Type and submit student roster to Director or HoS, who will create a class list
    to be distributed to teaching staff
  • Assist in typing, making revisions, and copying for marketing material
  • Make copies, to be distributed to teachers’ mailboxes, of flyers and notes to go home with students
  • Other duties and special assignments as needed by the Director

Elementary School Teacher

  • Use specialized approaches to facilitate English language development to second language learners
  • Maintain productive, supportive relationships with students, teachers and parents.

Reading Tutor

As an Elementary Literacy Tutor, you’ll help students in kindergarten through third grade to become better readers. With great training and onsite coaching, we’ll prepare you to work one-on-one or in small groups to help kids develop their reading skills and confidence! Students make the most progress when you are there, so our tutors serve during school hours and are needed for the whole school year.

We are currently recruiting for the 2020-21 school year. Tutors have the option of beginning in August 2020.

This is an AmeriCorps member position with Minnesota Reading Corps. Although the earnings are modest, the rewards are great! You’ll join an amazing group of more than 1,000 Minnesota tutors, determined to help students be more.
