Special Services Coordinator

Position Description:

The Special Education Coordinator provides leadership in planning, implementing, coordinating, Special Education programming across the school in alignment with the District.  The Special Education Coordinator promotes inclusionary practices that foster the understanding of Special Education laws, rules, and regulations for students, families, and adults.  The Special Education Coordinator supports Special Education teachers and paraprofessionals in all aspects of the implementation of the special education process preschool through age 21.  The Special Education Coordinator also supports administrators, teachers, guidance counselors and other professional support staff in meeting the needs of students in need of services.

Qualifications:

Special Education Licensure, Related Services Provider License (OT, PT, etc.) or Board Certified Behavior Analyst  Licensure required for working with students in Federal Setting 1-3.
Multiple licensure preferred.
Ability to design and implement specially designed instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of students requiring special education services.
Experience and willingness to work on general education teams and provide collaborative special education services with general education teachers is required.
Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and to effectively direct the work delegated to them. .
Experience with evaluation and eligibility determination for special education services preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position fosters development and growth of professional learning communities and facilities job-embedded staff development including infusing technology into the core areas of academic curriculum.  The instructional coach supports the building school improvement plan to improve and close academic achievement gaps. The coach will support teachers in modeling ways to increase teachers’ and students’ use of technology as it positively impacts student performance in the classroom.

 

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support the school district’s strategic action plan including district mission, vision, strategic objectives
  • Support and facilitate professional learning communities, including the multi-tiered instructional support system for all students.
  • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers to;
  •         Enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and set their own educational goals – Personalize Learning
  •         Use digital tools and resources to customize and personalize learning
  •         Provide multiple and varied assessment strategies aligned with content to inform teaching and learning.
  • Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
  • Assist instructional leadership and instructional staff with professional development and effective use of existing and emerging technology based tools.
  • Support teachers in implementing proven/evidence-based instructional practices into classrooms with the goals of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and building teacher capacity.
  • Work with the personalized learning department, principals, and teachers to develop, evaluate, and recommend technology based instructional tools that will effectively and efficiently support learning.  This will include, but is not limited to: serving on assigned curriculum improvement cycle teams,  helping administrators and teachers build and effectively use common assessments, formative assessments, and learning targets while leveraging technology, and collaborative teams across the district as assigned to provide expertise and support the implementation of adopted tools.
  • Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • In collaboration with teachers model the design and development of digital learning experiences and assessments.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
    Serve as liaison between student learning and services and district Personalize Learning Department.
