A Special Education Paraprofessional at Centerview Elementary School, helping primarily support students with visual impairment in grades K-4, but programs may also include students with Developmental Cognitive Disabilities (DCD), autism, mental impairments, physical impairments, other health impairments, and/or behavioral disorders.

Primary Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to…

under the supervision of a licensed Special Education staff, implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), customized and personalized for students;
having the ability and passion to work with students with disabilities;
working comfortably with students in individual, small group, and large group environments, in both general and special education settings;
working effectively with an interdisciplinary team, while having the ability to work independently;
working with school staff to provide support to students, in collaboration with teachers; and
participating in, and providing information for, team meetings related to student success and next actions.

Candidate will be responsible for all assigned grade classroom duties and responsibilities, which will include: the implementation of music curriculum, communicating with parents, managing the classroom, and working collaboratively with colleagues while functioning as a member of the Woodcrest staff and working towards school-wide goals.

Position requires someone who is enthusiastic, self-motivated about teaching students and working with staff, and has the ability to be a flexible team member.  Candidate must have strong communication skills, and value working in partnership with parents and other staff members to provide a professional learning community focused on improving student learning. Spanish-speaking preferred.

The dean provides services to students, staff and families in the areas of personalized learning, guidance and counseling, school and classroom learning environment, and building leadership and supervision.

Personalized Learning, Guidance and Counseling

Primary advocate for aligning work of adults, including parents, teachers, and other appropriate staff, to meet student needs, interests, and aspirations
Work with students and families to develop, access, and use learner profiles and personal learner maps

Create avenues for ongoing communication, and conduct face-to-face meetings with each student and family on their caseload at least once a year
Provide support services for students and parents in the area of academic programs, registration, course planning and selection, to achieve 12 college credits by 12th grade
Work with new students and parents for a successful transition to the school, including development of a personalized onboarding plan
Confer with students and parents on student learning style and preferences, interests and aspirations
Provide personalized and proactive college and career planning with students and familiesInterpret test results to students, teachers and parents
Utilize data for the purposes of student planning, placement, and growth
Provide information regarding scholarships, dates of college entrance and placement tests, and other post-high school matters
Provide the opportunity for students to meet with college representatives and career speakers
Provide appropriate referral to other “pit crew” members (student & family advocates, school psychologists, behavior specialists, assistant principals, etc.), or provide short-term support services as appropriate, for students needing crisis intervention, emotional/social support and/or conflict resolution
Develops and implements 504 plans, as appropriate
School and Classroom Learning Environment

Partner with school administration and teachers in implementing consistent school and staff expectations and practices, leading to a welcoming and culturally proficient learning community
Supports teachers and parents in addressing student behaviors related to, or impacting, learning (e.g., academic dishonesty, attendance, tardies, work completion)
Collaborate with behavior specialists, dean of student, and assistant principals to develop, implement, and refine targeted behavior support plans
Provides a channel of communication for students to express concerns about the school program

Administration

Partner in regular building-level leadership meetings with school administration
Assist building administration with supervision of after school and evening functions
Assist with daily student supervision as appropriate
